I don't really understand why school vs signing is such a big deal for some of these guys anyway, especially the more academic ones. Most of them will spend at least a year or so in rookie or short season ball which runs during the time they'd be off from school anyway. Go to college and get the experience anyway, and you have a big signing bonus and summer job on top of it.
Maybe teams don't generally like this, I don't know. Seems pretty reasonable though. Heck, encourage them to do this and give them a scholarship to attend school while video taping/scouting their peers as payment for the scholarship.
