  1. One nice thing about this trade is that it should set the bar high for us if we want to unload a reliever or two - and he didn't go to either of the two teams who have 3rd base prospects we might be interested in and desperately want relievers (Arizona and Detroit)
  2. Not so sure about that. I almost feel sorry for any runner that decides they want to take him out. No walls to run into/over either.
  3. Lawrie. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it.
  4. They are seeing if they can expand their trade/FA options. At some point you have to get a look at Lawrie at 2nd in major league games before deciding whether that is a valid course of action.
  5. Down 5 runs, against a lefty, with a shift. Just put down a few push bunts and get on base for crying out loud (Lind and Rasmus)
  6. That might be the highest infield pop fly to go for a single that no one lost in the lights that I've ever seen.
  7. Apparently weather doesn't look good for tonight's game.
  8. I wonder if Matt Davidson might be a target. We haven't heard anything about him (which adds credibility to him being a possibility). Arizona is looking for relievers.
  9. Are we sure it's the 11th pick next year and not the 10th? Technically I think our pick this year was 9b (ie, 9th pick but we were bumped due to someone not signing with another team the year before). The one spot may not change the other arguments, but what COULD make a difference is that the pick at 10 I believe would be protected if we signed a type A free agent.
  10. JPA now has walks in 4 of his last 5 games. Keep it up!
  11. You also can't say he's done a bad job either. 5 years from now we'll have a MUCH better idea.
  12. I think AA said he really wanted a bat, but the ones he wanted went before we picked. He didn't like what was available at pick 10, so went with a pitcher.
  13. Players take time to develop. This isn't the NHL or NBA. From 2010, only 8 of the top 50 picks (first round) have appeared in the majors so far (and two of those were fairly brief). From 2011, only 5 of the top 60 picks (first round) have appeared, and only 2 (Rendon and Fernandez) have done anything noteworthy. From 2012, only 2 of the top 60 picks (first round) have appeared (Wacha and Gausman).
  14. Obviously I've never been in the position myself, but I suspect it's a hell of a lot easier to take Rowdy's position on draft day than it is with a contract in front of you with your name on it and 7 figures on the check - possibly even late first round money. I still don't understand these players. Can they not make an agreement with the organisation to go to university or college (but not play on the school team), then join the Jays during the summer? Some may not have the grades to get in on academic merit alone, but I bet a lot that really want the education do. Most of the high school guys seem to play one or two years in short season ball anyhow, so it's not like they'd miss much playing time if any. It's like the best summer job ever.
  15. So do I, although that short porch in Yankee Stadium is a little overboard.
  16. We HAVE to start looking to go up the middle or opposite field. Only way to have a chance to combat that sinker.
  17. Time to see if the hitters learned anything first time through.
  18. I think it's just the mic placement, but still pretty amusing.
  19. Well, if we had just stranded a runner at 3rd with no one out, we'd hear about it for the next 5 pages. Hopefully we can make them pay for it.
  20. Batters jumping away from pitches right down the pipe to try to draw a walk should get an extra automatic strike tacked on.
  21. Last year, there were 19 2nd baseman who put up 1.5 war or higher. (22 in 2011, 21 in 2010) Not sure they're quite as easy to find as you suggest. We definitely need to address it though.
