  1. I'd rather Max, but I would have been okay with that deal too.
  2. If he performs like last year, it'll be a hell of a bargain.
  3. With how long it takes Boras to get deals for this clients, I'm not sure he works on any day that ends in a 'Y'.
  4. I'm still not convinced Bo is gone. He was part of the group who tried to convince Sasaki to play here. Those aren't the actions of someone who is unhappy with the club and/or wants out. I'm not saying he WILL resign, just that I don't think it's as unlikely as people seem to think.
  5. The Jays have spent a lot the last few years in upgrading Skydome. I wonder if that money is now available for the payroll?
  6. This is excellent news! Now we just need one more legitimate bat. We're not the Dodgers, but this team could be really, really good next year.
  7. There's still a ton of good relievers on the market too. Picking up another big bat could go a long way to convincing some of those that the team is legit next year.
  8. I don't think the team would have front loaded Santander if they were worried about the CBT this year.
  9. Straw also steals bases with a high success rate, which is nice to have off the bench late in a game. He's a useful player, just not the best use of resources.
  10. Oh thank god. Now we need a second big bat and things will be looking a lot better. I don't even care about the five years at this point.
  11. The league will definitely look to do something about this. Rather than a hard cap, they may just put in place a ban against deferred money though. They could also tax deferred money, or they could consider the full amount to be the salary rather than adjusting for present value. What the Dodgers are doing is not good for baseball. I'm thinking there's going to be a LONG strike in two years (rather than a shorter strike that was probably going to happen anyway).
  12. That article also stated that the money to Straw wouldn't affect the Jays signing other people. There could be more money available than we thought ... or cue the JP lie quote.
  13. We'd actually be a pretty good fit for Scherzer. The dome means better pitching conditions. Schneider pulls the starters early anyway, so he wouldn't be overtaxed. If the Jays are out of it at the deadline, he'd be pretty much guaranteed to get moved to someone in the thick of the race.
  14. It looks like Manny Cedeno, Ayden Johnson, Jhoan De La Cruz, Cristopher Polanco, Carlos Taveras, Deivid Coronil, Carlos Alvarez are still not signed from MLB's top 50 list. Polanco was already a guy rumored as signing with the Jays. It's possible they use the extra to try and snag one or two of those other guys. It's use it or lose it, so they may as well back the extra truck up one someone.
  15. The Dodgers have pretty much cemented a very long strike when this CBA expires.
  16. It's possible the agent played us. He may have told the front office that Sasaki would sign if they could up the offer, then went back to LA after they did and told them that he'd sign with the Jays unless they could add extra. It's also possible that the Jays felt the "risk" was in eating a relatively small bad contract and adding some talent to the minors in exchange for the chance at a franchise changing signing. Straw also seems like someone Atkins would like. He can't hit, plays good defense, and doesn't strike out a lot. Maybe the Jays think they can tweak something and get him back to where he was in 2021.
  17. Straw is clearly going to be our new DH. If you lose your mind, you might as well go all in.
  18. That's not cool. He's clearly at home watching Godzilla movies. He's thinking about maybe considering the possibility of cheering for Ghidorah.
  19. I'm going to laugh my ass off if the Dodgers now stash Sasaki in AAA as depth.
  20. I'll reserve judgment on the Straw component until we see how we utilize the extra international money. Hopefully there's a solid plan in place for it.
  21. I hate it when both players wear the same outfits. It's one thing if you're paying attention, but if you have it on in the background it kind of sucks.
  22. With Romero, I think they underestimated the market value of relievers (at least early on). That being said, there's a TON of good quality relievers still on the market, so maybe they actually got it right?
  23. They need to make the tax code and rules clear. If no one knows what applies and what doesn't, the benefit of the doubt should go to the taxpayer, not the CRA. The CRA can then fix the ambiguity for the next year.
  24. Stroman's velocity drop last year is a bit concerning. He's annoying on social media, but a pre-2024 Stroman could definitely help this team. Honestly, I'd rather sign Quantrill at a fraction of the price, but I'm not about to turn down upgrades right now (unless it comes at the expense of a big bat).
  25. Oh God that's depressing to see typed out.
