    I think I like the idea of Coghlan more, but assuming Moss bounces back a bit this year, he seems like a decent fit.

    This is a minor league deal. There's nothing stopping us from still picking up someone like Bruce or Coghlan (who would probably cost a bit to acquire). Don't look at a minor league signing as closing the door on something else. Note: I said that before I saw that the A's got Coghlan for a hot steaming pile lol. They're probably gonna end up flipping him at a real nice profit.

    Maybe the extra strength and flexibility will help his command, which is really the main issue for him.

    Bautista's track record leading up to the contract is a hell of a lot better, although he'll also be 2 years older.

    It's probably worth noting that the guys who continued to produce at advanced age (Ortiz, Manny, Thome, Bonds) all had high walk rates like Bautista does. Thome and V-Mart are a little younger still, so we'll have to see how they do in the next year or two. I suspect guys like Bautista and Choo will age relatively well with the bat as long as they can stay on the field physically.

    They could structure the bonus on MVP voting or something. Maybe give him a $10M bonus if he finishes top 10 in voting. He's finished top 10 in 4 of the last 6 years, so it's not unreachable by any stretch.

    Lol, I just got a message when going to mlbtr that said the servers were at capacity. Never seen that before, even at trade deadlines.

    I suspect the Bruce part was legit, but it's entirely possible Rosenthal had someone else suggest to him the Saunders part and it made enough sense to assume was true. Heck, it might be true. I'm just not willing to assume blindly that it is, and that the team would lie to Saunders about it. Hell, for all we know maybe it was someone like Smoak that was going to LA (which would make some sense if Pujols is having health issues).

    Maybe it WAS just rumours, at least on the Saunders part. It's not like journalists never make s*** up.

    Given his age, I don't think 5/100 is really a lowball offer. If he was 30, then sure.

    LMAO. There's no way in hell any team gives him that at age 36.

    I wonder what Coghlan would cost? He'd be a nice fit in LF, and can fill in at most positions in a pinch. Seems he's probably out of a starting spot this year with the Cubs, and is a free agent after the season.

    It would be pretty two-faced for him to rip on AA for trading prospects for good players in a playoff push, then turn around and acquire a player who might have negative value for some. With that said, I think if we were willing to give up a decent prospect the deal would already be done. We wouldn't be trying to do a 3-way.

    Well, that could be the link we're missing. Maybe Jacoby has seen a flaw he thinks he can fix.

    For the price of Bruce, I'd rather see about signing Austin Jackson for 2 or 3 years if they think Saunders knee is bad and Pompey isn't ready.
