    People want the Jays to spend $25M on a pitcher for around that many games...so Shulman is the starting pitcher of the announce crew (although I imagine he'll mostly do home games)

    I'll give you some credit here... But continue to note that they keep talking about additional revenue but never talk about additional costs (although the 3rd quarter results do talk about additional costs). The Sun wants everyone to think that it's pure profit (even say so in this article), but revenue and profit are very different.

    He was allowed to announce the PanAm games for CBC as well. I imagine he can freelance at any Canadian network. He is truly a great guy out of the booth as well, good to have him doing more work in the city.

    He talked about that at the Prime Time Sport Management conference. He has ties in Toronto and said it was Beeston asking him to come in, and that the ownership group and he were never on the same page. It really seems more and more like there was a battle between who got to pick the replacement. I think Beeston always felt he earned the right to pick his replacement.

    the other thing that people have to consider for pitching options is making a trade in season.

    He is one of those guys that no matter what got bad reviews for not having everything look right. He's not a great athlete and has an unorthodox swing. But he produced results. Within one year in the minors after being a 20th round pick BA had him as 6th on the prospect list for the Astros. Then a year later he had 150 PA's with Houston. Every report had him as a doubles hitter though. If you were looking for a similar guy in the minors right now (meaning one that is missed because it's just not all there)...look at Jaycob Brugman for the A's. He's not fast, he's not getting the power numbers that his profile shows...but he's worked on balance because he was a front foot hitter (just like JD)

    While I don't agree with the price of the move (I am a Logan Allen guy and he is probably the least valued of the 4) the Red Sox were 10 games over .500 for July and August, before dumping their last 4 in draft pick gainers. They should view themselves as a team that needs to add wins...and they just did. I don't think adding a really, really good closer is ever "the move". But it's safe to say that Boston is not finished.
