The only real benefit I see is allowing Yesavage to potentially get back onto the mound and end the season on a bit of a high note. Of course this also risks him further injuring the knee so you have to hope that the knee is ready for this kind of exposure at this point of his recovery.

Well if he's healthy, why not? He needs innings, I was thinking he might pitch in the fall this offseason, for a few starts anyway.

The club has been publicly stating that they are hoping for something closer to 50-60 pitches so the 104 is all but impossible.

Roy Halladay never complained about a dead shoulder and the dude threw a complete game almost every 4-5 starts. Geez do I miss those days. 

Cease still had really good outings even after that CG against Boston, especially in August. Mostly caught up to him in September since he's been meh.

Roy Halladay didn’t average 97 mph on the fastball.

Like it or not, the pursuit for high velocity is the reason for all the extra arm injuries we see in the sport these days

We protected our 500m investment by letting him play injured all season. So I wouldn’t put it past this FO to let Cease start

How is this remotely relevant to what Cease is obviously going through? You are getting awfully close to intimating that Cease is essentially making up his shoulder issue which is fully evidenced by the fact he sitting low 90's in his latest start.

If we are still mathematically in it this weekend when we face Cincy, wouldn't be surprised if Cease starts on Saturday or Sunday, only in a must win game if still have a shot at the WC.

Aside from the obvious that we've run out of people to throw out there and the remaining miniscule chance of a postseason spot, I think there's value in getting Yesavage back on a big league mound for a couple of innings. One less psychological barrier to feel anxious about over a long offseason and potential lockout.

Still concerned that this will lead to something down the road. You can't really see everything in a scan, if there's the start of something small it'll only show up when it gets big.

Obviously the game has changed from the 1990's/2000's till now. 

Never said Cease made up his shoulder issue, so don't make those accusations that I'm saying that. But crazy that arms back in the 90's/2000's, even guys that threw hard like Johnson/Clemens/Schilling had no issue throwing complete games back then. Different era of baseball.

Agreed. 

Halladay was the best at his craft. Went to a lot of his starts in the 2000's. Every night he pitched felt like a guaranteed win. We were so lucky as Jays fans to watch him pitch every 5th day.
