Not Scheider's fault entirely but Varland gassed, Cease gassed, Soriano more innings then ever and potentially gassed.

This is more of an Atkins thing I guess, but why not use some young pitchers, Perry in particular, Miles as a 3 or 4 inning starter.  Try some guys like Stanifer and Guerrero.   Send them up and down strategically.

If you remember 2015 Anthopoulus called up 20 year old Osuna and Castro from A-ball and they were like each given a shot to close (Osuana stuck).  Castro gave some innings and strategically sent down for fresh arms.

Need to fire Schneider for gassing everybody.   Though acknowledge like why the f*** can 20 year olds with 10 innings of A-ball be called up in 201`5, but 23 year olds with innings in AA can't be called up in 2026?

Still looking at September 23rd, Camden Yards, House of Certified Genius Mike Elias, for the firing.  May seem extreme but Varland gassed and did he need to be?

Start with not using Miles last night after not using him yesterday?  Saving him for Wednesday ?

Varland gassed because pitching too much in 5-1 and tied games, especially on the road like last night.

Still think Miles should just have stayed a 3 or 4 inning starter.   But if he is not a starter why didn't he pitch last night?

Varland shouldn't be pitching with 4 run leads, and tie games on the road.  There is an off chance in the latter he can pitch 2 innings in those but that itself leads to him being gassed.   In a tied game another reliever will likely have to pitch anyway.   If your b-relievers can't save 5-1 leads not your year anyway.

Varland's workload probably isn't crazy with respect to historical standards, but with respect to 2020s standards for guys throwing 100?

Mason Miller will end up with 10-15 innings less than Varland this year.  Jordan Romano pitched 15 inning less a year.

Fire Schneider for not teaching Kirk how to be better at ABS challenges please.

I realize this thread is bringing out the worst in me.  It's my first firing thread and I don't have very nice temperament to begin with.

I don't blame Schneider for missed challenges that are judgement calls... it's like blaming him for Sosa not walking.

I do blame him if the players aren't prepped with guidelines as to when to challenge given leverage, some players given red lights early in the game (like basestealing) and if they aren't prepped for edge scenarios like last night.

Weird situation, and I don't know if the dugout is even allowed to yell at Kirk there.  But did Kirk think it was a ball (not Schneider's fault), have a brain cramp (forgot he could challenge at the end of the play), or wasn't prepped for that scenario (Schnedier and the coaching staffs fault in that case).

Obviously on a standard pitch, the bench can't be calling for Kirk to review it.  But on that attempted steal, where Kaz dropped it - it's my understanding that Kirk can ask for a review "once the play has ended" - and thus in that situation, someone could have seen from the monitors that it was a strike and yelled at Kirk to challenge the play immediately after the failed rundown.

Now I think for that to work - they have be yelling it while the play is still happening and seeing as Kirk was involved, that might not be such a good idea.  Therefore - they should have yelled at Cease to challenge it - as Cease just stands there uselessly during the rundown.  That's probably the ONLY situation that could develop where the bench can legally yell at the pitcher or catcher after using the technology in the clubhouse/dugout to help them.  What a missed opportunity!

That's so awful that they should probably clean house today - fire everyone.  Fire Shapiro.  Fire Dan Shulman.  Bring accountability back to the Blue Jays please.

A good firing thread we can't go overboard firing everyone, can't jest either.

Would any organization have their players prepped for that situation?  Is it reasonable given the situation comes up once a year or decade?  Like the weird situation where a run scores on a non-called strike.

Much more common is just a stolen base.  Players should be prepped and ready for that one, and then this one is really just the same as the stolen base attempt, with the wrinkle of the rundown, but catcher should be prepped to ABS at the end if he thinks it was a strike.

More than one person deserves to be fired over this season Olerud.  1st to worst offensively (for all intents and purposes).  Sorry, but you don't get to dictate how many people I want to fire.

Fire Popkins and Dan Schulman's son just to send Schulman a message.

Fire whoever decided that Sanchez should play tonight instead of Keys.   If that was Schneider's decision alone.  Move Schneider firing date up to September 22nd.

I just watched the best defensive catcher in baseball, Patrick Bailey, challenge pitch on a 3-0 count in the bottom of the 4th in a 6-0 game.

Schneider's fault - Fireable offense #589

No one will care about that obviously unless I guess this game gets close.  If he did in a 3-3 game and they had no challenges left in the 9th... maybe they'd care.  Either way though that might be justifiable.  In a 6-0 game use the challenge to prevent it from becoming a 6-4 game.

Seriously.  Has Schneider prepped his players well for challenge situations?  Red lights for certain players, drilled in a good understanding of leverage.  They know the edge cases, what to do on stolen base attempts?  Maybe it's all fine.

Useless thread, is useless... no Manager or GM is getting fired. Period.

Astros might fire Schneider in this situation.  Didn't they fire their manager leading the division this year?  And their GM after winning the World Series?  I think their owner is pretty hands on, and takes credit for the good and has a quick trigger finger.   No other organization including Blue Jays would fire Scheider 1 year from being in the world series.  Maybe a year or two from now if this continues.

Thread is still OK, just to get a feel for what people think of his decisions.

On a related note apparently Johny King wasting bullets in New Hampshire tonight.  That decision isn't Schneider's I guess.  AA and Gibby had Castro save 4 games, and Osuna save 20 at the same age, with less experience and a shakier injury history.

This is the best thread on this board.  People LOVE a scapegoat.  Tons of Blue Jays fans seemingly can't live or function without blaming someone for the failures of the team.

If you're not going to fire someone when the team goes from 1st to worst offensively - I'm not sure when you're going to fire anyone...

What happened in 24? This year will be slated towards injury and selling, at the deadline, Skip has them in it, good luck.

Fans lost their minds in 2024 Spanky - and Martinez was fired.

This place was a cesspool of morons questioning every move and decision made by the organization.  Even more than it normally is!!!

Those takes should be taken with massive grains of salt, I said they both should've been sliced I believe, this year isn't on JS.

It's a 6-5 game now and Bailey already wasted both challenges before the end of the 5th.

If people actually watch other team's, they'll realize the things they lose their f*cking minds over actually happen more than they think.

Can't remember all the s*** I post, but don't recall losing my mind at any of the various challenges that were just judgement calls.

Last night was more an outlier situation and wondering if the team was prepped on the rules.  Maybe they were prepped fine and Kirk just made the wrong judgement.  Maybe he was prepped fine and just forgot in the chaos.

Similar in a way to the phantom 4th out thing.  They won that game so it was humorous, but you can bet there would have been 10x as much discussion about whether Schneider knew the rule if they lost.

My interpretation on that one was Schneider probably knew the rule, thought the umpire ended the inning so it didn't matter and didn't aggressively yell at his players to appeal.

That makes it clear that they can challenge at the end of the play.   The dugout can't aid.  So in terms of the continuation thing I don't think the dugout can yell during the play.  So players need to be prepped about the continuation, and that could be one exception case where the pitcher is encouraged to challenge.

I would say people are more like Houston's owner.   It's not looking for a scapegoat.  More like as an outsider you watch it on TV, and it seems the manager isn't exactly state-of-art.  You read the smart people on this board, browse the stats, listen to some old schoolers and come away thinking 'why is Spaghetti guy pitching?  Don't they know the rules?  How come the hitting coach's are 5 years behind driveline?"

If your the Houston owner you fire people.  If your a fan you demand to fire people and replace them with state-of-the-art certified geniuses.  Maybe the latter doesn't exist.   Not looking for scape goats, it's striving to be that great organization ahead of the curve.
