Blue Jays Recall Ricky Tiedemann For MLB Debut

The Blue Jays recalled left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Triple-A Buffalo today. Right-hander Chase Lee was optioned in a corresponding move. Tiedemann is a former top-100 prospect whose shine faded after he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024. He will be making his MLB debut the first time he gets in a game.

I will give this organization credit for the fact that they aren't scared to throw their kids in. 

Yesavage last year and now Tiedemann.

I really thought they would tediously wait until Ricky built up like 10 to 15 innings in the minors, I'm glad they're just throwing him in because they recognize we need talent.

If doesn't work out, so be it, it's worth the shot.

I think you let the game dictate. 

I'm concerned about SWR against this team. With Shitter on the mound, the leash has to be quite small. Unless it gets out of hand early in which case you let SWR throw his arm off along with Waldron.

I'm curious if it does turn into a blowout do they use Tiedemann just to get his feet wet, or do they save him for tomorrow when they might need a leverage lefty.

We only have 2 leverage pitchers.  Little doubt that Ricky will be asked to get big outs early.

Jays rightful no longer care about his development.  He breaks down every 20 innings as it is. Just throw him against the wall and hope he sticks.

Man could we ever use a legit shutdown lefty in the pen who can also get righties out.  Flu is OK, but he's best suited to be the #2 lefty in the pen.

6th or 7th I'd assume, depends on who's available on any given day.

Theyre just hoping he doesnt break after 1 inning.  His performance rest of the way this season will determine his future with the team.

Feels like he should kind of have some success first. But if they are making this move it’s probably from their internal analytics that he will be successful and they are tired of wasting bullets in the minors and don’t know when he’s going to get hurt again. Lets hope it works out.

Yeah, RT being a starter seems like a real long shot. If he stays a reliever though, the Jays have built up a decent pool of potential high end lefty relievers, especially if Little has turned a corner. 

Flu is solid if unspectacular.

Little if he's figured control out has shown flashes of dominance.

Tiedemann has the kind of high end stuff that could be high leverage.

Coleman is now in AAA, getting knocked around a bit early on but there is time to figure it out.
