JaysFan99 Verified Member Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Varland is the man. I guess we just need to play a team with a worse offense than ours to string together wins. 🤣 dancingmachine 1

They used Varland in the highest leverage situations - which was the right choice. Nice try though as*hole. Is that concept too difficult for you to understand too? Jays24 1

SeranthonySantander Verified Member Posted June 18 Posted June 18 With the Oakland team losing tonight we are back to tied for wild card. It’s only the 4th but it’s 5-0 and if this was a sports bet you could cash out at this point. So it’s as good as settled.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Varland is throwing harder now than he was earlier in the season. He's touched 101 a couple of times on June 12th, today 3 pitches 100.1, 100.4 and 100.8mph Brownie19 1

Our leverage guys are getting killed. We need innings from our starters and we need at least a couple of these games to be broken open by the offense. Everybody is back offensively except Barger. There are no excuses at this point. This is our team. Guys need to start figuring it out. hanton, Brownie19, DownSouthBlueJay and 1 other 4

For example, should have rode Miles for more innings today in hopes of saving everyone. Brownie19 and Smokinitup420 1 1

He's hardly thrown any innings in his career (just 22 since being drafted in '22). Unless you think he should just be expendable, they he's going to reach an innings cap rather soon. He threw 38 pitches on Sunday. I'm not sure it's wise to run him out there for 2 innings today (like 35+ pitches) on just 2 days rest. Not that I want to see them run Varland into the ground either. JS is doing everything he can to keep us in it. We're actually really successful on bullpen days this year. But it's taxing the pen. It's a tough approach to date, but we might be 7 games below .500 right now if we don't manage it this way. Need the offense to wake the f*ck up soon to relieve some pressure on the pen. 🤞
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Literal free sweep tomorrow. Please don’t f*** it up. Boston is the worst team in Baseball.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Yeah I don’t like the pen overuse, especially for Varland, but that’s just how JS likes to manage, and if the Jays can’t win by more than 5 runs when they do wins games (4 runs is a save situation to JS) then this is what the end result will be. The offense needs to wake up.
DownSouthBlueJay Verified Member Posted June 18 Posted June 18 They are between a rock and hard place with vladdy you invested 500 mill in this guy so you can't bench him or send him to buffalo you just gotta keep sending him out there and hope to god he figures something out.

Obviously I have no idea what has or hasnt been said to Vlad by Schneider or Popkins or whomever, bit i would hope that some form of tough love has been tried. Like...piss him off a bit and see what happens. Publicly, of course you have to support him and say all the cliches about fighting through it and how hes a veteran and he'll figure it out, hes just one adjustment away from being himself...and all that s***. But, privately Id want to rip his head off and just say "listen dipshit, we're paying you 500 million dollars for the next 10 years, play like you f***ing deserve it...ass" DownSouthBlueJay 1
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Nice win, sucks having to burn through the bp against teams like the Sox though. We need a deep game by Yesavage before going to Chicago tomorrow.
