Druw Jones is really just a reclamation project at this point. Yeah - I agree. Unless you really liked Bratt - I hope/think the Jays can do better. I just posted it for the sake of conversation. It's wild to think about how awful Druw Jones has been. I know there were concerns about his swing coming out of HS - and injuries have derailed things a bit, but he's the #2 pick from 2022!

Would you trade Varland if Mason Miller type package is on the table?

That package won't be be on the table, but if it hypothetically was then yes they absolutely should. They should still listen to offers regardless, but I doubt they will because they'll intend to try to contend next season.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29 Posted July 29 The Cubs seem like a good landing spot for Gausman - even Bieber. Their starting pitching leaves a lot to be desired. Kevin Alcántara seems like an obvious target. Ethan Conrad and Kane Kepley would also be of interest.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Trade 2 or 3 among Bieber, Gausman, Scherzer plus Varsho and Springer. (Keep Bieber if you can't get what a QO comp pick would get you) Keep Vladdy, Kirk, Valenzuela, Gimenez, Clement, Lukes, Barger, Okamoto, Yesavage, Cease, and 2/3 of the bullpen, Get Taillon for league minimum (yuck but whatever he can eat innings the rest of the season for a couple hundred grand) Let Chad Dallas and Spencer Miles have a run starting with a reasonable innings limit Stop using Varland as much. Play Straw every day cause he's fine Play Clase full time one he's healthy Get a top 10 draft pick Re-sign Gausman in the off season Get Santander and Barger healthy Add a legit OF bat in the off season via trade Add a solid starter and lefty reliever via free agency You're good to go for 2017/2018

If I could get a Jo-Jo Parker type prospect plus a Johnny King type prospect. Along with a MLB arm and a decent throw -in? If do it.

To be fair, Bieber's Savant page is very blue. He's been pretty bad. It's only 7 starts but he's coming off an injury where he missed 3 months so the lack of control and the decline in stuff is meaningful despite the small sample. His next scheduled day would be Sunday, so I doubt he's getting another start. I'd be shocked if the Jays get anything worthwhile for him.

Everybody knows what hes capable of and even as a quality #3 SP he's going to have value as a rental for a team in the race IMO We'll find out soon enough I guess. Spanky__99 1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Just sayin' - we traded for Bieber last year without him pitching a single game at the ML level. We're not getting a Top 100 prospect for him, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone gives us a lottery ticket to find out if he can round into form...

That clunker of a start definitely going to turn off a lot of scouts. You could tell something wrong there
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30 Posted July 30 I wonder if Springer is becoming a valuable trade chip. Teams need RH power hitters. Springer since: May 15th - 116 wRC+, .195 ISO June 1st - 125 wRC+, .196 ISO June 15th - 132 wRC+, .215 ISO Gotta wonder what his season looks like if he didn't break his toe early. George is still a stud. Proven playoff performer and clubhouse leader. It's probably not a Top 100 prospect, but he could fetch us something interesting. Selfishly, I'd love to see George re-sign with the Jays and go year by year and retire a Jay - but I think we move him if we can get something of value. I'd be open to having him back in 2027 too (yes we'd still need to add something more substantial offensively - not suggesting this is our FA 'fix'). Spanky__99 1

The Teams with the Worst DH Production Atlanta Braves: The DH position has been a massive weak spot for Atlanta, producing a meager .652 OPS over recent months, which ranks 26th across Major League Baseball and has heavily prompted their front office to search for trade deadline upgrades. [1] Pittsburgh Pirates: Pittsburgh has continuously bottomed out the league in DH metrics, largely due to cycling underperforming bats like Jack Sinsky—who carried a brutal .147 batting average and visual sub-.540 OPS in regular DH stretches. [1] Seattle Mariners: Seattle has consistently struggled to find continuity at DH, historically sliding into the bottom tier of MLB with a combined positional average under .200 as they frequently rotate bench players and resting catchers rather than deploying a true, middle-of-the-order threat. [1, 2] Kansas City Royals: Ranking near the bottom of positional power rankings, the Royals have failed to generate standard league-average power from the spot, dragged down by fill-ins like Jonathan India managing a subpar sub-.670 OPS.

His scenario is complex because he has full 10-5 rights so they can't trade him anywhere without his permission. He will have a lot of interest, but how many of those teams would want to acquire him in a platoon or bench role which cuts his playing time? If he stays in Toronto he is obviously the everyday DH. He certainly has value, Petriello was on today before the game saying if he gets moved there's certainly value there, his bat speed/barrels/ev etc are all back to last seasons levels unlike earlier in the season. He played with that broken toe(likely his early troubles masked by this), guy's a gamer and will likely end up on a contender. He might comeback, you never say never. Brownie19 1
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 30 Posted July 30 The Astros could use another bat, Springer? he'd have to be ok playing the field though

Forever92 Verified Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Gausman gone, if we trade Bieber, Springer, Varsho, Straw, Gimenez. Removes 90 million from payroll. Saves team around 30 million can be used next season.

Only save salary Gausman is an extremely valuable piece to a playoff team and dumping his salary only got us bit pieces. Getting a team to eat Bieber's salary is almost certainly off the table. We would have to eat his salary just to get a lottery ticket back. Probably still worth it due to added roster flexibility for the rest of the year.
