Yeah I think the Jays could make it work with both Kirk and Valenzuela on the active roster. Need to squeeze as much offense out of this lineup as possible, and keeping Valenzuela around over Heineman is a significant improvement on both sides of the ball. Spanky__99 1

Nice sample bro, I know his bat has regressed immensely, but a bat isn't what teams look for in a backup C, it's the defense. He won't return a lot but maybe a platoon bat for Lefties or a lottery ticket works, hell, even cash towards the deadline or in the INT market works. We'll see by early mid-June. Just look at the Bailey return although he's like elite defensively, wherein Heineman is normally very good and in the top 10.

I think it would be really easy to make a Kirk/Valenzuela tandem work, at least in the first few weeks after Kirk returns. I think the club is going to carefully monitor Kirk's playing time in the beginning and for the first while they could run more of a 1A/1B tandem like back when Jansen was still around. I think Valenzuela has been showing glimpses of being an impact level of player given how elite the overall defensive package is behind the plate, and keeping Heineman in place of Valenzuela would be a massive downgrade to the club even with Kirk's return. jaysblue 1

He's also the worst hitter in MLB when you sort by minimum of 70 PA. It's impossible to overstate how bad he's been with the bat this season and at this age it's entirely possible he's finished as a major league hitter. jaysblue 1

Yeah, all great points. I doubt they’ll ride Kirk that hard in terms of playing time right away, especially over the first couple of weeks. It kind of reminds me of 2022 and 2023, when the Jays had Kirk and Jansen working more as a tandem - and that was a real team strength!

Sneak into a wild card with a pathetic record and show up in some suprisingly place like Chicago or Sacramento for a wild card series, then go to face the 110 win Rays in Tampa Bay and maybe have to beat the Yankees or Guardians on the way and finish it off with a rematch against the Dodgers. All the while parading out 2020 Shane Bieber whos been hiding in Dunnedin and 2021 Vlad who decides to show up for the playoffs
