Leo Morgenstern Jays Centre Editor Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Speaking to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi, Blue Jays right-hander Yimi García confirmed that he will open the 2026 season on the injured list. García, 35, had elbow surgery last September. He has not suffered a setback, but the Blue Jays are simply taking things slow with the veteran reliever, who also dealt with elbow issues in 2024. The righty has not yet thrown off a mound this spring, though he's hoping to do so soon. While it once seemed as if the Blue Jays would have some tough decisions to make regarding their Opening Day bullpen, that might not be an issue anymore. Barring a particularly impressive spring training from Chase Lee or one of the Rule 5 guys (or a last-minute Max Scherzer signing), Toronto's Opening Day bullpen is likely to include Jeff Hoffman, Tyler Rogers, Louis Varland, Brendon Little, Eric Lauer, Tommy Nance, Braydon Fisher, and Mason Fluharty. Seranthony would have been $10M AAV per year and has been volatile throughout his career. He could be lights out, or he could be extremely wild. Jays also signed Trevor Rogers this offseason. Let's hope someone like Braydon Fisher could step into more leverage spots this season. Maybe even Tommy Nance or Chase Lee emerge as legit late-inning options at some point.
R.O. Verified Member Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I was intrigued by what I saw from Macko yesterday. 96 mph on his fastball, that can play really well in short bursts.

Again, I was right. I wrote few months ago, we shouldn't have too much expectations about Garcia, Santander and Bieber , coz they will spend most of the season on injuries list. Was mandatory to find a top reliever to replace Garcia, and someone who can bring a lot of offensive to replace Bichette and Santander. Ofc Atkins didn't do that, and instead just patched with utilities players.

We were miles better team after acquiring Seranthony and Vardano.

While he isn't the flamethrowing high strikeout guy he is an elite bullpen arm who will thrive with our Ernie/Andres middle infield. Spanky__99 1
