Glad to see the Pirates actually spending money and locking up what should be a core piece. They have a real chance over the next 4 seasons (Skenes' remaining years of control) to build something resembling a competitive window.

Wonder if this means Skubal signs before December 1. If there's a cap then he wouldn't be able to operate in a free market anymore. We saw lots of players just before the last lockout sign their deals (Gausman being one).

I think Konnor Griffin is an idiot for signing that extension

Realistically, they were probably holding him down long enough to get the extra year of control had he not signed.  So nine years gives up 2-3 years of free agency.  It’s important to note he still hits free agency at age 28 with a chance to get his bag.

what was his earning potential in those nine years?  The first three would be about 2.5 million total on minimum contracts.

Soto got $80 million in four years of arbitration so if Griffin becomes a superstar (and arbitration doesn’t change) that seems like a reasonable number.  Those are both big ifs though.  His more likely comparable in arbitration is Bobby Witt Jr who’s numbers given in his extension were actually a bit less than this.

That’s 82.5 million for the first 7 years.  Tack on another 60 million for two years of free agency and it’s not a bad deal given the security it provides for his family.

I heard a pre-game interview from him and I don't think he's a smart man.

Maybe that’s because he’s like a year removed from high school

Perhaps - still brainwashed

McLean pulled in the 6th, flirted with a perfect game/no hitter, then a couple of walks and a double + climbing pitch count

Married with a kid at 19.  Many in the industry say he is very mature for his age and is clearly coachable from the adjustments he made as soon as he got to pro ball.

That being said, the fact he was married so young makes me wonder if this was a case of marrying to sleep together.

Orioles are under 0.500 and Eflin is getting a second opinion on his elbow.

Totally wasting their competitive window

Mookie Betts taken out in the first inning with some kinda back injury

I'm thinking he was carted off the field, just saw the highlights, he hurt his back trotting around the bases (?).  old man

Pirates walk it off against the Orioles in the bottom of the 9th!

And the Red Sox lost yet again too.  Now sharing the worst record in the AL with Oakland.

Bednar tightrope act once again but manages to get the save.

Its actually crazy how shaky he always looks but somehow gets it done.

Jo Adell just made an INSANE homerun robbery tumbling into the seats after the catch.

He’s robbed 3 homeruns tonight and the Angels are winning 1-0

That's nuts.  I saw the 1st one then saw your post and had to read it twice to believe it.

How good are things going for the Yanks right now?  So good that Stanton had a key SB last night.

I guess that answers an age old question I have had about whether a fielder has to stay in play for a ball not to be a homerun.

Same, great catch.

First in years. Seems like everything always goes right for the Yankees in April/May, and then they always freefall near the end of summer.

Almost like how the Jays never play well in April. Weird how that works

Jordan Romano looks like he's back. Still small sample size, but great to see. Happy for him.
