Seriously though, Jays aren't adding two more SP, re-sign BO, sign Ranger, and get a high leverage arm. Dump Straw for a lottery ticket. That should get us into the revenue of 275M to 280M they need to stay under that next tax threshold of 284M... save at minimum 4 million for the trade deadline. Right or no?

Straw remains untradable

Either way, dump the contract and use the money for needs like the pen, is what I mean, Lukes can play CF behind Varsho. Loperfido can take over Straw's role as 5th OF at league minimum.

OMFG Tatis Jr. would be a dream acquisition. But with how MLB salaries have ballooned in recent offseasons his contract actually looks like a relative bargain and as such the acquisition cost would be painfully high.

Payroll wise that is a really backloaded contract which might make it less attractive to some teams.

I wonder what they think of him as a possible centre fielder.

Both Juan Sanchez/Johnny King would have to be included in that hypothetical trade.

The only way we even get in that deal if either barger or yesavage are included. At least yesavage.

Feels like we've heard the Padres want to make a change and/or cut salary for several years now.  They have been making massive moves every year anyways... what more can a franchise do lol.

We all seem to agree that the clubhouse culture was amazing and had at least something to do with their success this year.  From all reports, Kilometres Straw was a massive part of that culture and was a real leader in the clubhouse.  I think he is a guy they keep around.

As long as he doesn't get 10 at-bats in the World Series again most of us would be fine with it. But he can still be dumped in the Minors for a little savings.

Justin Timberlake What GIF

He's 26 and projected for almost 6 WAR next year and had 6.5 WAR last year. So..... yea.

There's a high probability that Yesavage could match or surpass that number in his first full rookie season. Homegrown aces don't grow on trees, especially if you're the Blue Jays.

I'll take the under. What odds will you give me?

edit: sorry tatis had 6.1 war. I'll take the under on that as well.

I'm pretty high on Yesavage, but cmon. I think most would be thrilled if he put up a 3.5-4 WAR season next year.

And even with the contract the ask for Tatis is gonna be insane. Like Barger, Nimmala, Jo Jo Parker, and probably ++. Probablly too much, unless they're gonna eat some cash.

That said, he's one of a few guys that's probably worth nuking the farm for.

It’s same as Machado contract basically but his gets to 39m the last handful of years ending 2033

Tatis is like 2 months older than Vlad.

Actually probably a better contract than what Vlads will end up as

The only pitchers with 6.5 WAR this year were Skubal (6.6) and Skenes (6.5).

I made a mistake, it was 6.1 for tatis. So, you can add christopher sanchez. Pretty good list!

It's only like ten guys in the last 5 years.

He pitched like a 10-year vet with two cy young's under his belt in the postseason. It's a safe bet.

You'd probably get 20-1 that Trey has a better year than Skubal.  I don't think we've seen enough to know how he will do over a full season.  He had some shaky outings and some really good ones.  Teams didn't have full scouting reports on him.

We shouldn't be shocked if he has to go to AAA again at some point but I expect he will be a good #3 his rookie year.

Lol

Hitters will adjust.  He will be good no doubt, if he stays healthy.  But he will have his struggles especially after Hitters make the adjustment.
