There are certain circumstances when it makes sense to ride your starter, but there are also situations when it makes sense to make the change earlier. Great managers don't just pick one approach and always go with it. They read the situation and make the call. Often the probabilities of having more success with one call over the other is 50/50. It's really unfair to judge them harshly based on those decisions. It's often a coin flip (or slight advantage). The best managers often just go on heaters. Omar 1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I'm shocked they pulled him.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Imagine pulling your back to back Cy Young ace at only 99 pitches for a guy who was closing games for the Washington Nationals the last two seasons.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 They didn't go to the lefty for Naylor?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Leaving Finnegan against Naylor is a very questionable call here.
SeranthonySantander Verified Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 sjubal tries too hard
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 So pulling Kirby the right move, but pulling Skubal the wrong one?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Imagine having Mitch Garver and Victor Robles in your starting lineup and actually making the playoffs.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Stupid move to leave Finnegan in there.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 With Skubal's level of dominance and mostly the reason your even in this situation. You have to ride him as long as you can. Atleast until someone puts a good swing on him. Having that kind of Ace I don't know how you take him out. His last pitch was literally 101.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 It's possible that Skubal told Hinch that he was done.

Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Hinch was lucky he cheated to win a World Series
SeranthonySantander Verified Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 We know Kirby doesn’t like to do more than 100 pitches didn’t know skubal was a bitch too

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Ross did a pretty good job with our bench not going to lie. We have a lot of utility compared to these teams.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Good, now keep it right here at this score!
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 This is one of the worst displays of managing I've ever seen from AJ Hinch.
