They just used Valera instead of his as a pinch hitter. And CJ Kayfus and Naylor, but those decisions aren't as bad. Not sure why he is on the roster then

To be fair, putting a guy to debut in a spot like that in the playoffs is tough, but if he's on the roster then this is as good a time as any to give him that vote of confidence.

Smart front office and great coaching and development. And ownership absolutely refuses to get them the help they need to challenge for a title. They should have Pete Alonso or a similar bat in that lineup. That about sums it up. Well pitched game by both sides, enjoyed it.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Who would've thought 5 years ago that Nick Pivetta would be the ace of a wild card team. You'd probably think he would be starting for a low budget team like Cleveland who finally got him to stop giving up bombs. Everyone called it, if he could lower his HR rate he could be a very valuable pitcher and the Padres are definitely reaping that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 The Padres bullpen is so good that they don't even need 5 IP from any SP. They already have 3 clean from Pivetta. The game is almost over.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 But they don't deserve to win because they are freaking bunting with Jackson Merrill Spanky__99 1
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Skubal throated Cleveland god damn.

Miller, Morejon and Robert Suarez were all 2 WAR relievers this season. Absolute embarrassment of riches in that bullpen. David Morgan would be their mopup arm and he's nasty.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 And just like that, Pivetta gives up a bomb. 112 mph rocket from Suzuki, wow.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Back-to-back homers after looking near unhittable. The Nick Pivetta experience. Spanky__99 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Padres blew it. Didn't need more than 4 innings from Pivetta!!!!!! What are you saving all those elite relievers for?!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 The pitching overall has certainly been much better than the offense today. As expected.

Offense was Cleveland-like in this game, bailed out by their ace. Isnt that what aces are for?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Electric atmosphere at Wrigley. TIL Brad Keller is now a shutdown relief ace.
