Leo Morgenstern Jays Centre Editor Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon reports that the Blue Jays were “open to discussing their best prospects” as trade chips ahead of the July 31 MLB trade deadline. The Jays ultimately acquired Shane Bieber, Louis Varland, Ty France, Seranthony Domínguez, and Brandon Valenzuela without giving up either shortstop Arjun Nimmala or right-hander Trey Yesavage, widely considered their top two minor leaguers. Bannon mentions left-hander Johnny King as another high-ranked prospect the club held onto. However, Ross Atkins and Co did trade several promising youngsters, including pitching prospects Khal Stephen, Juaron Watts-Brown, and Kendry Rojas, as well as major league position players Alan Roden and Will Wagner. Jays Centre's Bryan Jaeger recently wrote about what the team gave up in Stephen, while Simon Li did the same for Rojas and Roden. What do you make of the report that the Blue Jays were open to trading their top-ranked prospects? Do you wish Atkins was more aggressive at the deadline, or are you glad he kept the likes of Nimmala, Yesavage, and King in the organization? Share your thoughts in the comments below. John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 Anyone not even willing to listen to proposals on top prospects is doing their team a disservice.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 I think it's evident that they were willing to put up every prospect for trade based on some high ranking ones - whether by industry publications or internally - being moved. Whether anyone came close to matching the values for their internally top ranked prospects - Yesavage, Nimmala, King, etc. is another story. I'm sure they valued Stephen and Rojas highly and they received some valuable pieces back as a result. Perhaps Yesavage was in play for Joe Ryan but the Twins asked for other top pieces back. Maybe other teams had interest in Nimmala but the team balked at the value they would have received in return. Spanky__99 1

It could just be that they offered him for Skenes or something, which is a no-brainer. Spanky__99 1
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 Good it makes me happy to know if a big fish had moved at the deadline the Jays would have been fully involved.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
