Well yeah Vlad, 600M is ridiculous the 585M ask, is looking more likely to me., ridiculous...

Yup looks like the number Ortiz gave on instagram was true.

Vlad is smoking crack if he thinks that’s what he’ll get. Glad the front office didn’t cave.

Shatkins deserve an apology from almost everyone here. Vlad is a moron.

No one's giving Shatkins anything, you trade his ass as soon as he asks for anything that ridiculous.  It's like he thinks his whole career is a repeat of 2021.

So do Shatkins wait until the trading deadline or doing it now to get more value?  There's always the chance of an injury and all is lost.

What's your opinion

The Jays are trying to win this season, it doesn't change anything. The next time they can trade him is at the deadline if they're not in contention. If he goes to FA Jays can match it and we'll see if his word of being a Jay for life is true.

There's also no trade partners at this time of the offseason.

The problem with spring training is guys are facing guys that aren't MLB pitchers and even MLB pitchers are not yet MLB ready.  Sample sizes are small and mostly misleading.  Still, we're here and desperate to talk about guys so one early spring training observation.  Davis Schneider with 7 walks in 20 PA.  That's a good sign.

I hope our new hitting coach can light a fire under our offense!

That seems a little optimistic unless you think he's the second coming of Arod.

Arod did get a September call up at 18 and 150 ABs at age 19.  Next year Nimmala will be 20 with 2 full years in the minors plus rookie ball the year before that.

My thesis on this is based and 3 observations.  1.  The kid is very physically mature for his age.  2.  He had a horrendous start to his season last year and was able to make adjustments and posted a .901 OPS from June 1 onwards.  That leads me to believe he does have really good talent and the development could be fast.  3.  He talks his walks.  Showing patience and plate discipline is important.

I'm not so highly convicted that I'd bet my house on it..lol.  He either kills it in the minor leagues and knocks on the door for next year or has mixed results and is a couple years away.  It's just my spring training optimistic overly biased take of the day!

There was a process to this, they had to wait for Alonso and Soto to sign, they signed Santander/Yimi, traded for Gimenez etc, to that point in ST, when did you expect them to trade him? The conversations stopped at the start of ST, 2 weeks ago? It's not a video game man and it sure isn't as easy as you suggest.

That's an awfully tall ask for a teenager that ran a 30% K rate in low A ball. I don't know how much of that is due to pitch recognition vs hand/eye coordination, but his ultimate ceiling will depend of making the necessary improvements to bring this under control.

He said he came down on the years to 14 lmao

What’d he open with? 20?

LoL exactly. He "came down" to lets say 14/585 (assuming Ortiz was right) ... or 41.8 million per season.

With deferrals you could probably make that AAV palatable.... but not for that length of time for a 1b who's really a DH who provides less baserunning value than catchers...

I wonder if the Jays even listened to offers on Vladdy at the deadline last year. It kind of feels like Donaldson the last 2 years he was here where they missed the window on moving him.

Now I would certainly hope they would get more that a Merryweather type package at the deadline if they sell but you probably could have gotten a haul at the deadline last year.

Yeah they were pretty hopeful they could re-sign him but they didn't know for sure that they couldn't until 2 weeks ago. That's not a great time to trade him.

Plus, the team wants to compete and they probably feel they have a strong chance to re-sign him in FA. Baseball's TV deals are in the toilet right now with ESPN dropping them and the regional networks all dying.

There aren't that many teams that can even afford to give out a $400 million dollar contract right now and there is even fewer that will do it for a 1B/DH. The Jays are well positioned to bring him back and I'd probably consider them the favorites.

That clearly wasn't the goal, or the Jays would've moved everyone last deadline, not just pending FA's.

Yeah it seems ownership/FO didn't want to sell. Now whether or not that backfires on them remains to be seen.

Absolutely, that's fair. Atkins fired if they don't make the dance floor I assume.

Vladdy has been under control and has publicly stated he wants to stay with Toronto his whole career from the start.  Jays could have easily had these talks at any point during his tenure and it was Vlad who actually created this self imposed deadline to even initiate these talks.

It is literally the job of the Jays management to manage their assets.  As soon as you find out an asset is being unreasonable, you as an organization need to do what's best for you.  This will 100% come down on Shatkins either in a good or horrible way and rightfully so.

Mets beat writer is throwing tons of cold water on them being players for Vlad in free agency

Quote

The Mets’ handling of Alonso in free agency, specifically their complete unwillingness to offer a homegrown star and fan favorite more than three years, makes it virtually impossible to imagine them entertaining the notion of signing a first baseman to a deal five times longer, like the one that Guerrero pitched to Toronto.

That logic holds true even knowing that Guerrero is 25 years old and Alonso 30. With Soto signed into his 40s, and facing the possibility of needing to serve as designated hitter for many years, the Mets roster probably cannot withstand a long-term commitment to a slugging, hulking first baseman, whether Guerrero or Alonso.

There was one chance of extending him after the 21' season, you think Toronto and Vlad forseen 22/23 seasons, where was the time you think it made sense? From what I just read 2 weeks ago, lol.

Wagner was a foot away from a dinger, smoked that on a line, love to see it.

Dude is a launch angle tweak from being legitimately scary with the bat. Though the same could be said for a lot of guys really...
