Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 If we land one of Alonso/Bregman, we become true contenders in the AL. If we land both of them, we become THE favorites in the AL. That's how much there's riding on this. Delete_My_Account_Thanks 1

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 Hector Gomez was right twice so far this offseason, can't see why he can't get a trifecta here, I also loved that he clowned on Shi and BNS.

Big part of me believes that Shi and BNS purposely put reports out there to help the Jays front office gain some leverage in negotiations. All we heard was how desperate they were and ready to spend their way out of this mess. They've been putting cold water on almost everything to the point I feel it must be deliberate. Who knows lol.

Will be "epic" if they land both Alonso + Bregman and lock up Vladdy. Heck, even one of Alonso or Bregman with Vlad locked up, would call it "epic." Right now, it's been a solid B+ offseason for them. Wouldn't say it has been "epic." Jays24 1

It's maybe not quite an epic offseason yet, but it's getting awfully close. I'd already hand out an A- rating based on how much talent has already been infused into the roster. Stangstag 1

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 The perception that this offseason is just ok is 100% due to coming 2nd for Soto and Sasaki. We brought in Gimenez, Santander, Hoffman, and Scherzer. That’s already a pretty great offseason, and with 1 more addition (which is likely) its an excellent one. max silver 1

Why do you keep doing this to posters? Your self righteous act is getting old. People can like the Blue Jays but not like Atkins. The only reason the Jays will be competing this year is because ownership is willing to spend whatever it takes. That's great news, but in my opinion other GMs would give Rogers more bang for their buck. Go ahead and disagree, that's fine. But stop ridiculing people for not agreeing with you. This dude has done nothing but complain for the last few years including some really odd posts such as literally wanting to take a deuce on Ross Atkins face. I have no issues with discussing baseball opinions but I also expect opinions to be backed up with some sort of actual reasoning and not be exclusively filled with nothing but hyperbole and nonsense that's easily refuted with basic facts. That extends to you when you make silly statements about how the current front office is the worst in the history of Toronto sports. Make serious statements and you'll be taken seriously, make statements that belong in the Sportsnet comment section and you'll be treated accordingly. Brownie19, Stangstag, Spanky99 and 1 other 4

Like jesus people Yeah I don't get the complaining about the high payroll. Who cares if the Jays have a $290M payroll as long as they make the playoffs even as a WC team? The 2014 team was in a WC spot at the trade deadline and sat on their hands because Rogers didn't want to increase payroll even slightly. Those days weren't fun. Rogers realizes that spending excessively is the only way to contend in 2025. They had too many holes to fill and not enough internal help. The fact that they are doing it is a great thing, for short term and the future. Maybe it works and we see post season play in 2025. If it doesn't then they'll trade a bunch of guys in July to get below the thresholds. max silver, Eat My Shatkins, Funky and 2 others 5

Personally, I don't give a s*** since we're benefiting as Jays fans either way. It shouldn't be taken that seriously but some folks love defending this front office like it's their family members lol.

Funky Verified Member Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 Got tickets to Florida. Daughter playing ball down there for two weeks. Gonna be able to catch some ST games in Dunedin again. Now I have more to cheer for with Tony Taters. Ross find him one more bomb buddy. Lots of smoke out there. Bergman is a perfect fit. Don’t like the years but at this point don’t care. if Rogers is willing to spend money we can cover up the odd contract or mistake. Alonso would be fun but would rather have Vladdy on a long term and address 3B Our new vacuum cleaner at 2B will help solidify the infield defence if Vladdy and Bo stay Bullpen looks 5X better than last year thank you Mr. Rogers for stepping up. just do it one more time. I don't think there is anything "epic" about being given a huge payroll and signing FA's where Toronto likely is the only team competing for their services (e.g. Hoffman, Santander & Mad Max). I give kudos to ownership more than Atkins for these recent moves. As for Gimenez, sure nice trade to pull off, but don't make it seem like Atkins stole him away from Cleveland lol. Gimenez came with a $19.37M AAV who is locked up until 2029. There is a reason why Cleveland wanted to let him go and clear his salary. Lucky the Jays had the payroll, or else Atkins can't make that move. Overall, it has been a solid offseason even if the Jays do nothing going forward. Definitely more pleased with it in comparison to last offseason. Delete_My_Account_Thanks 1
