Do they keep Vientos at 3B or move him over to 1B?

Baty's a better defender at 3rd, he'll play 1st and DH with Polanco.

The Red Sox and Pirates announced a five-player trade on Thursday evening. Starter Johan Oviedo heads to Boston alongside lefty reliever Tyler Samaniego and minor league catcher Adonys Guzman. Pittsburgh gets rookie outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia and A-ball pitching prospect Jesus Travieso. Boston needed to open a spot on the 40-man roster, so they designated righty Cooper Criswell for assignment. Pittsburgh’s roster count drops to 39.

Merrill Kelly 2/$40m

That's the Bassitt market I guess

Yeah Bassitt either gets 2/$30M or 2/$40M or a one year deal with an AAV between $15-20M.

I think he lands something a bit more less than Kelly.

They have a World Series ring during AA's tenure, but sure AA and the Braves suck.

Braves could go back to being one of the top teams in the NL again if they stay relatively healthy and if some guys bounce back.

I think the boys are picking on you again.  We know this is a sore spot.

Francys Romero reports that the Phillies are signing Adolis García to a one-year, $10 million contract, pending a physical.

It looks like the Phillies have replaced Nick Castellanos before the inevitable trade that will ship him out of town. García, the 2023 ALCS MVP, is coming off back-to-back down seasons, but he has a Gold Glove in his past and 30-home run power, so perhaps moving to Philadelphia could help him recapture some of that magic. It certainly hasn’t helped his cause that Globe Life Field has been about as tough of a ballpark for right-handed hitters as any in the league the last couple of years.

I don't know why anyone would assume there is a single team that would want to trade for Castellanos as he's dropped below league average at the one phase of the game he was able to offer any value. It's shocking how badly this deal has turned out for the Phillies as Castellanos doesn't even crack the single win barrier after 4 years with the team.

Ain't no one trading for this 34 year old version of Castellanos.

He's had a nice career, but I'd be surprised if the guy could even find a roster spot elsewhere at league minimum - any team that could play Castellanos would be better off playing a youngster.

Terrible contract the minute it was signed. Hilarious that he didn't even give them one decent year though.

The Phillies might just cut him loose tbh

As bad as the Berrios contract looks at least he can still at least eat some innings at the back of the rotation for a major league club vs Castellanos who has nothing to offer on the diamond.

He's a below average hitter who is a right handed DH at this point. Projects for a 94 wRC+ and below replacement value. I think he's released and lowkey might be out of the league unless a really bad team signs him to be a platoon bench bat, mentor type vetrin presence.

Ooh I love good players who don't like the Yankees

Can you imagine Vladdy AND Marte laying an absolute beatdown on the Yankees in the postseason for a 2nd straight year?

Trade the farm

Braves bringing back Ha-Seoung Kim for $20M.

Not that crazy about Kim at that price, though it's only a one-year deal. Would have thought maybe around $12-15M given him coming off the injury plagued season he had. If he stays healthy and returns to be a 3 WAR player, he at least is an upgrade at shortstop for the Braves in comparison to what they've had the past three seasons haha.

Wow - that's a ton of money for Kim, but I do think there's a good chance he rebounds and is a solid player if he's healthy again.

Ha-Seong Kim forced the Braves to pay full price because he’s the only SS available other than Bo

Bingo, I'm not surprised by the price at all, he declined the player option for 16M, so he gets 4M from that buyout and adds 20M, nice and tidy little business and bets on himself this year, he had multi year offers on the table and chose Atlanta. Not bad on either side, really.
