We can't really accomodate Alonso with Vladdy, Santander and Springer on the roster next year

They would have to move multiple players around and seriously degrade the defense in order to accommodate him

I don't understand why teams give opt outs like that, seems like you guarantee a bad out come. Either he does well and he's gone or he doesn't and you're stuck with him. I can't believe we gave Santander an opt out when we still paid a premium

I love that stuff.  And Kershaw is still pitching great.  It will be interesting to see how the Dodgers use him in the playoffs.

Either way.  What an incredible career.

f*** him, I have no interest in him.

He could find another team to age poorly with.

He was 8th in wRC+ in the majors this year, not exactly the problem with the Mets.

Him, Soto, and Lindor (who put up another 6+ fWAR season) were carrying that team.

Btw Bobby Witt Jr's stats the past couple of years are not terribly far off Trout's when he began his tear, weighed a little more towards defense than offense give or take. That guy is so damn good.

100%.  He's a generational talent.

Yeah after putting up a 38 HR, 126 RBI season with a .272/.347/.524 line and 3.6 fWAR, not surprised. Probably his best and last opportunity to get a $100M + contract from someone. Definitely a team lacking RH power could use him.

I also bet Cody Bellinger declines his 2026 player option after posting a 4.9 fWAR season with 29 HR and 98 RBI.

Given the Jays current roster construction, there is no room to accomodate a player like Alonso. As well, not sure he would want to sign strictly as a DH.

Bellinger could be an interesting target and wouldn't cost as much as Kyle Tucker. Gives the Jays a left-handed bat with some pop who can play all 3 outfield positions.

Bellinger might be a nice fit to upgrade the team’s offence, should Bo leave. Move Gimenez to SS, rotate Belly, Santander, and Springer in RF/LF, with Straw and Lukes as backups. The infield would be Barger, Clement, and Schneider for 3rd/2nd, not bad depth.

Belly could also give Vladdy a break at 1b, so you could be keeping all the big bats in the order while resting them in the DH.

Everyone should go look at the final numbers for the Cleveland team.  It is insane this team came back to win the division after being 15.5 games behind.

Their best pitcher was Cade Smith - I have no idea who they're starting in the playoffs.  And outside of JRam, the offense is a bunch of 1.5 WAR players.  The offense had 2 regulars with a wRC+ over 100.

They finished the season with just 3 players who has 2+ WAR (Jays have 10).

Wild stuff.

Interesting sure but the Red Sox and Cubs? nah.

I was just going to say the same, can't see it. Interesting theory though.

I mean - crazier things have happened.  I think that would be one of the dream matchups for MLB with over 100+ years of history from each team.

Do you guys think this season marks the start of the decline of Mookie Betts? Or is this season just a blip in the radar and he'll have a couple more 130,-140 wRC+ seasons ahead of him still.   This was his age 32 season... thoughts?

His frustrations at the plate remind me of what Springer looked like last season.

Watching many of Betts ' at bats he looks lost at times, as if his mind knows exactly what to do but the body doesn't follow - a sign of a decline(?).  His defense has been really good though - has made some rally nice plays in the field

That's a pretty interesting analysis...

They were giving you 51 to 1 odds on the Red Sox to win the World Series on Bet365 last night after they were trailing 1-0 to the Yankees. I put $20 down for the fun of it. Anything can happen in the Postseason.

A truly remarkable transition really.  One that people should talk about 50 years from now.  The guy goes from being a 2nd baseman to RF and then to SS at age 31/32 - where he's actually quite good?  It's an incredible story.

Betts may indeed be on the decline. Bat speed can be fleeting as a player ages and the onset can be sudden. Jose Bautista is an example. It was there and then it wasn't. This season his bat speed is hovering around 67 mph versus his MVP year where it was up around 72. Not saying he is washed but he may never be the player he once was. Sorry to say.
