Leo is playing at lot of 2nd lately....Jays seem to prefer Clement at 3rd. That's a bit disappointing as Leo's bat has been pretty solid so far and I expect things like BB% and K% will normalize closer to what he put up in the minors as he gains experience. I always thought he was supposed to be above average defensively at SS, which would have given him some solid upside. His bat at 2nd base isn't nearly as appealing.

Definitely worth monitoring his SS defense. On the various prospect sites he was always listed around 5'10'' 160. He's now listed at 215 pounds.

Hopefully that doesn't affect his defense but he's definitely built more like a 2B than a SS now. And if that's the case his shot at being a full-time starter drops dramatically. He's probably a bench player.

The Phillies should prove to be a very good test for Bowden's Voodoo magic.

You know he's also pitched against those run of the mill O's twice in 10 days, right? Bosox and Cubs to add on, but the Angels, I know...

To be fair they might just be wanting to increase his positional versatility, and giving MLB reps is the best way to gain valuable experience at a position he might be slightly less accustomed to. Yesterday night when Barger came out of the game they shifted Clement to 3B and Leo to SS. I think they're molding him to be a utility guy who can/you're fine with starting more often than not, and with Wagner/Horwitz being the strong side of the platoon and Davis Schneider tanking, they need someone to cover the lefty platoon at 2B if Clement is gonna be playing the left side of the infield.

Also, Bo still does exist within the org. They might think Leo is already capable enough of handling SS, but we know he won't be a starter there if Bichette is still around, so move him around the infield and see what other positions he can cover with the former healthy.

FTR... Schneids said he wants more looks of Leo playing 2B about a week back. Same lineup too, when he mentioned it.

Bo is dead to me. He's the new VC in Toronto - f*** him.

Is Clement good enough defensively to play SS fulltime?

it's hard to say. The limited samples could go either way.

2023 in 42 chances, he was -1 OAA

2024 in 62 chances he's +3.

So +2 in 104 chances, which is just not a lot of chances to go on. To put it in perspective, Bo has 239 chances in 2024 and was a +1 OAA, so the variance in outcomes for Clement could swing pretty far one way or the other with full time reps.

No Devers against Boston, Cubs are only okay. Orioles, one start was pretty good the other was average.

I'm not knocking him, but there is some voodoo going on here. Nonetheless, this will be a good test.

Francis is bringing it again. Tough start with the pair of homers but he's really settled down since. 6:0 K/BB, 16 whiffs in 83 pitches -> 6/25 on the FB, 4/10 on the splitter, 4/5 on the slider.

Francis could come out of this with a quality start, one more scoreless inning. That would be more that can be asked of him against this Phillie line up.

100%

I suspect he's coming out now after 89 pitches thru 6 innings. He continues to impress. Gotta love it.

Solid outing by Francis. Probably closer to what we can reasonably expect from him than what he had been doing previously. It would be big if he sticks.

He pitched well. Didn't have his usual stuff or command and still managed a QS against a good hitting lineup.
