John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Like, I get why a guy might think a bunt there is defensible ( i dont), but...doing it with a guy who's clearly never done it and doesn't practice it...that's just dumn
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I mean, the history of the franchise, all the moments good and bad.....all of that stuff still happened. Whether they play in the current shithole or not. Eventually ya just have to let go of a substandard stadium, regardless of how historic it is. One thing I give Boston though, Yawkey way is a f***ing amazing place both before and after a game. That whole City is built on maintaining and refurbishing historic buildings. There's an old fire station there where the door was built for horse and buggy firetrucks....and they kept it and build a custom firetruck to fit! I think it's all pretty cool myself, but at some point, all good things must come to an end.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I think that did actually hit him.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Our ace on the bump tonight... And our ace delivers. Nice win.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I think that did actually hit him. If it did, it was the very edge of a seam. That one was nowhere near as close as the one Springer got thrown out on a few weeks back.
Joltin Joe Verified Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 We might have our front of rotation pitcher for next year
Masterbather Verified Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 But yeah, let's keep a solid metal wall out there because history and stuff. f*** player safety... Implode this f***ing dump already. Agreed. f***ing rat hole.

Dave Winfield lays down a beauty in the 9th inning of a World Series, on astroturf, and these f***ing fringe players can't lay one down in a nothing game in a lost season.
The_DH Verified Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Is Schneider drunk? A bit red faced and actually swore on tv. First he said Bowden F'ing Francis and then later said f***ing.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 bunting is "practiced" as part of bp but it's kind of done as a warm-up for swinging away and not really for laying down a bunt.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Why was Francis pulled at only 70 pitches?
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Why was Francis pulled at only 70 pitches? His velocity was down quite a bit that inning. He only started throwing about 92 MPH in the early going and was dipping below 90 in the 7th.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Why was Francis pulled at only 70 pitches? I doubt he's on a season limit - at his age - but maybe they are just being cautious after throwing 117

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 Bowden is giving me Dave Stieb vibes. Woah... lol
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 I wasn't referencing pitching ability. Steib took a no hitter into the 9th in back to back starts. It was the end of the 5th when I posted that. Clearly I jinxed him..lol I see.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 And our ace delivers. Nice win. Bowden *f***IN* Francis!!!

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Even without the velo drop the yank is fine. No reason to ride the guy like a mule at this point in the season. He threw like 17-27 extra pitches last time so save him those this time.

He even said after the game he was a lot more fatigued in this game and had to be "crafty" to get outs in the final innings. It was the right call.
