glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Mariners saving up Montes Arroyo Young Emerson Celestin for Vlad hopefully There's definitely a package with the Mariners that would make sense for both sides. The Jays (Rogers/Shapiro/both) don't have the balls to do it, but the M's are the team that has the need, desperation, and prospect capital to make this type of move worth it from the Jays end.
Joltin Joe Verified Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Randy had an abysmal start to the season, but he’s been hitting pretty well since June. Good deal for the Ms Bat speed sliding though

Trader Jerry has to be beside himself with tilt after failing to find anyone that can hit while he has a top 2 pitching staff in the majors.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 I think Atkins would not trade Vlad unless he's getting one of their MLB starters - he's going to make moves with half an eye on 2025. But something like Woo/Montes/Celesten (and $300M to spend on other s***) would be interesting.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Weird trade, in that all of those guys suck
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Orioles W The Phillies probably win in that they'll likely get better use of Hays than the O's will of Dominguez (I assume he'll take over LF with Marsh moving to CF). Dominguez wasn't getting high leverage opportunities with the Phillies. I'm not sure why he would fill a meaningful role with the O's. Pache is probably pointless. They'd have been better off paying $1M or so and getting Kiermaier who can at least steal a base along with the defense.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Pache probably gets cut in a few weeks, I think he's just a stop gap

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Hays is in the same camp as Mullins and Mountcastle. He sucks. Dominguez has also sucked for 2 straight years after looking like one of the next lights out RPers in baseball in 2022.

I think they save a decent chunk of money for their pathetic payroll, gain a rp that shortens games for them bc their SPs are dead and replace the short side platoon hays with Pache.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 They would do well on Vlad. 2 playoff runs before he becomes a FA. His 143 wRC+ offensive value RFN is the highest its been since '21. No chance they extend him, unless its a ridiculous term & AAV overpay I don't want. Do it if the offers are there now. If not revisit in off season.

I can't get over how insane it would be to not trade Vlad this trade deadline, and then follow that up by not extending him in the off season. Is the team seriously going to keep him for one more year because they want to contend in 2025 and then either trade him next July or let him test free agency? If Shapiro green lights that approach, then he can take the first bus out of town.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Eflin to the Os!!!!!!!!! for.... none of their top prospects couple 2023 second rounders and a 10th rounder with good numbers
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Why are we starting Kikuchi tonight??? I don't see any benefits, only negatives?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Why are we starting Kikuchi tonight??? I don't see any benefits, only negatives? Well maybe Texas will trade for him after he carves them up
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Why are we starting Kikuchi tonight??? I don't see any benefits, only negatives? Rolling the dice he dominates, risky against this lineup
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Rolling the dice he dominates, risky against this lineup The benefit of one good start vs another bad start or injury does not compute for me.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 The benefit of one good start vs another bad start or injury does not compute for me. dumb. Not sure if you're watching he just took a hard come backer off his foot, coaches came out he motioned he was fine
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Weird, Mariners just traded Stanek to the Mets, he is one of their set up guys. So, I guess in with Yimi and out with Stanek. I thought they were acquiring Yimi to supplement.

Especially with all of Munoz, Garcia, and Santos having health issues this year.

I thought they were acquiring Yimi to supplement. And, the Mariners acquired an CF/OF for Stanek. So to recap. They acquire a late inning RP from the Jays for a CF/OF type and then send a late inning RP to the Mets for a CF/OF type... Plain old personnel swap.

This is probably a reason to seriously consider moving Vlad to Seattle right now. Dipoto is all over the place and their farm system is one of the best.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 The trade deadline's getting weird, Crochet the trailblazer, and 7 other observations https://thescore.com/mlb/news/3043943 Interesting little article. Did you guys hear Crochet is demanding an extension for him to pitch in October? Never heard of that before. Can a player actually just refuse to play in the playoffs??? Also the first I've read about a "cover 2 defense" and suppressing doubles.

Also the first I've read about a "cover 2 defense" and suppressing doubles. I get why Crochet would want to make such a demand but he doesn't have nearly the pedigree nor leverage to do so. Plus where is the competitive spirit? If he feels he has limited time in his baseball career, wouldn't winning a championship be top priority? Enjoy throwing whatever pitches you have left for a last place team, Garrett.

It would not end well if he tries such a thing.
