Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Win tomorrow and it's a successful 4-3 road trip. Considering our best bats have been our worst bats, not a bad outcome.
Steeljays Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 It isn't just me... this team is boring as f*** to watch just like last year right? Chick's dig the long ball but so do middle aged men lol Honest question, what is the point of Guerrero on this team? He is the most overrated player in MLB.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 I miss that trio so much man. There was surreal confidence every time they came to the plate. Then AA took that magic to Atlanta and built a powerhouse entertaining squad there. Replacing him has gotta be one of the worst moves in franchise history. How did you like those 2010 -2014 Anthopoulos years?
Masterbather Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Because my eyes don't lie. I've been around a while to understand what is happening. People just don't get it. This is an okay team, it's just an okay team. This is supposed to be our competitive window and the plan is to hope that enough dominoes fall our way that we squeak into the playoffs as a wildcard and then hope that somehow our inept offense can beat the great offenses that we would have to face in the postseason against pitching that can very easily match ours.
BCZ Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Barger cost us the game with that rookie error... sure offense to blame overall ... poor guy though ...

The pitching is and has been elite though... defense overall also very good.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 Because my eyes don't lie. I've been around a while to understand what is happening. That's not the question though. Why does everyone who has negative takes claim they are a "realist"? No one who thinks that this team is a Wild Card team and remains relatively positive feels the need to call themselves "realists".

Chick's dig the long ball but so do middle aged men lol Barger cost us the game with that rookie error... sure offense to blame overall ... poor guy though ... This management values versatility. To me that mentality is for a bunch of utility players. We have too many of those in our everyday lineup. Teams don't win with guys like that. I hope they don't ruin Barger playing him out of position.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 All I can guess is that JS was overthinking it. 4D chess Prob thought that they would bring in a good rhp if he pinch hit? Maybe thought Zerpa sucks? I dunno. Weird. Could be as simple as “he had 2 really good swings tonight, lets keep him in the game”
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Cannot wait for hockey to be over. I know almost zero about the game and wish I knew even less. I do my best to avoid any talk of it but being a Jays fan I get bombarded with it come playoff time from Toronto based baseball outlets. Hockey is a garbage sport that shouldn't be on TV until the Winter Olympics are on. Goddamn I gotta agree with you there 100%. It has been extremely tiring hearing the last few years that the Jays are “just like the leafs”

I am stating what I see and have seen the past few years. Sure this team can be a wild card but the "reality" is they haven't moved the needle in a few years. That my friend is "real".
Masterbather Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 The pitching is and has been elite though... defense overall also very good. Pitching isn't elite. OF defense is, but not pitching. Not like we're the 90's Braves. Our advantage last year was depth and health. We'll see this year, but in the playoffs it's all about the front 3 in the rotation and back 4 in the pen. Depth isn't as much of a weapon anymore. Most playoff teams can match us or at least come pretty close with their frontline pitching come playoff time. It wasn't as much of an advantage last year as people here made it seem despite the teams impressive team ERA. Looks like we're going down a similar path this year.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 How did you like those 2010 -2014 Anthopoulos years? Hated his guts for the Dickey trade but then he kept making the right moves as his tenure went on. He was a young guy then and has clearly shown staggering improvement with more experience.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Repeat after me: He chose to leave Repeat after me: He wasn't a yes man and didn't care to work for Shapiro. Pretty obvious that's what happened here lol.

Steeljays Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Because Shapiro ran him off. Yep from day 1 Shapiro was always about remodel and sell seats and beer. He took advantage of "Canadas team". AA was about building winners (or die trying)
Masterbather Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Repeat after me: He wasn't a yes man and didn't care to work for Shapiro. Pretty obvious that's what happened here lol. Bingo. It's pretty clear that AA wasn't comfortable with whatever Shapiro was selling. AA is no fool.
HomeRunHomer Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 It was a bold strategy to call up a player and have him play his first game at a position he's never played before. Too bad it didn't pay off.

After seeing how Atkins operates, its pretty clear that’s not true AA left because he was butthurt they fired Beeston. Basically going from a boss that DGAF to an intelligent boss that actually knows his s***. Again, he was offered a new contract. He chose to leave. He was not forced out.
Steeljays Verified Member Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Again, he was offered a new contract. He chose to leave. He was not forced out. An offer they knew very well he was not going to accept . They pushed him. Come on now

Too bad it didn't pay off. Per Buck, coach Bud told him it was ok since he plays on the left side. These coaches are clowns
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 The same AA Fanboys who worship him daily on the board would be cursing his name as they watch Vlad struggle in the middle of a 12 year extension right now. And anyway, it's all moot as AA clearly learned a lot during his time with the Dodgers under Friedman. He'd be a different GM if he never did that and stuck it out here.

Honestly, it's hilarious that you truly think this. AA has run circles around Shapiro and didn't want someone above him that he thought he was better than. If it were up to Shapiro, 2015/2016 would have never happened and those were easily the best Jays seasons since the back to back championships.

The same AA who has signed some of the best contracts in baseball with Atlanta? If you truly think that of AA then you must think so little of Shatkins since the whole baseball world will tell you that AA >>>>> Shatkins.

I think Zaidi had a big influence on him about how to build a competitive team as well.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 I think Zaidi had a big influence on him about how to build a competitive team as well. Definitely. But don't let the AA Fanboys tell you any different. Nearly 10 years after he left they still post about him daily. He extended every good young player on his team, but he would have deftly avoided doing that with Vlad before he turned into a pumpkin because they just know he would.
