Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 Great game, finally a clean win with no drama.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 I heard from someone on here that Yimi should have been let go last season to avoid having his $6 million vesting option becoming active. If he keeps anything close to this up he's going to be a massive bargain. lol
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 Great game, finally a clean win with no drama. It was nice to see them cruise to a victory for once. My only quibble was using Romano with a 4 run lead given that Romano might not be available tomorrow if the need arises.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 He's not the guy who showed up for 4 months in mostly minor league ballparks a few years back. He's The fairly mediocre player he's been at every other point in his career. Those 4 months were the exception. Those stadiums had and do have park factors, fyi.

I was thinking the same thing but i feel we need to get Romano and Swanson in there for games like this just to work whatever rust off.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 We have to be the worst team history with a runner on 3B less than 2 outs lmao. How the f*** are the hitting coaches still employed Terribly run org for hitting at the MLB level How do you like the non-existent minor league development of pitching while we're at it? When they win the Jays are the greatest thing in the world and when they lose they're s***? Those are the worst types of fans honestly. All those quotes you pointed out are all true, win or lose. But hey, I'm happy to win. It's also very annoying btw when fans, not naming names, wink wink, continue to ignore the obvious flaws in this team and organization and pretend like they're a championship caliber organization when they aren't.

How? You misconstrue bi-polar behaviour by the way. Don't do that. The flaw in this team is power, that's it.

The team has played all of 20 games in the season so it feels a little premature to be making any sort of grand declaration about what the team's flaws will be over the course of the entire season. It's entirely possible that the team won't score enough to be a serious threat but once the RISP issues resolve they'll have a shot to score a pile of runs based on how many runners are making their way on base recently.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 Those stadiums had and do have park factors, fyi. They were certainly hitter friendly but Vlad was the only dude that laid waste to those parks in that fashion. He was legitimately locked in for 5 months of the season and his wOBA and xwOBA values were almost perfectly correlated so he earned every bit of the gaudy statistics by mashing the s*** out of the baseball. On top of that Sahlen Field and TD Ballpark weren't even the most hitter friendly parks in MLB as all of Great America Ballpark, Oriole Park, Coors Field and Fenway were more hitter friendly that season.

Bipolar is pretty accurate, I guess it's not random in this case it would be based on wins and losses but you get the point. The only problem is not power, It's a lack of good enough hitters and the fact that a false franchise player who also happens to be one of the dumbest morons in the league continues to take up valuable space in an important part of the lineup. Starting pitching is good, but as was the case last year, probably not good enough to carry a mediocre offense. Bullpen, probably pretty good as well. I still think the leadership of this organization is not good enough and the dearth of minor league talent becomes more glaring every year. It's especially sad when you consider that we had a great GM and the idiot Shapiro chased him away.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 No you're ignorant to bi-polar and have little clue. Seriously. I said stop with that s***.

The organization has one of MiLB's most stacked team's in AAA this season so the minor league system is actually not in nearly as bad of shape as you are implying.

Our minor league pipeline is one of the 10 worst in baseball, there's pretty much universal agreement on that, there's not a lot of exciting prospects. I don't know who's telling you otherwise. I guess minor league systems are ultimately subjective but you're the only one that seems to think it's anywhere close to subjectively good.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 I recall a lot of posters up in arms about the Y-Rod deal. Once again, looks like Ross made a great signing. Trust the FO boys.

Exactly. Hot takes are flying everywhere. Some arms and bats are over performing. Some are under performing. Its not even the end of April lol. Yariel pitches less than 8 MLB innings, and Jays X wants him in the CY conversation. He looks great but these things shake out and normalize in MLB. Look at Davis Schneider's historic debut in '23 to now. Manaoh went from Jays '23 opening day and home opener starter to getting his tits lit in A ball in 2024. JT, Biggio and IKF are like our top bats now. We are f***ed if that continues. It won't! Vlad, Bo, Springer and Kirk will all do more than they are now. Settle in for the long 162 grind of peaks and valleys, and a trade deadline. At the end of it all we will have 85-90 wins and be in a playoff spot or not. Edited April 20, 2024 by BigCecil

BUFF does look really good. On a ranking basis, apples to apples at a point in time, the farm is 18-21. If Ricky moves to MLB (increasingly less likely) we drop to 23-25th. Take out Orelvis moving up and we fall to around 30th. Those aren't my opinions...those are from ranking orgs that look at all farms on a relative basis. I realize these rankings are an imperfect science, and can change, but its arguably the best apples to apples information we have.
BatFlip Verified Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 I don't know about Cy Young, but Yariel looks like a polished pitcher to me. His fastball is no joke, he 'pitches' with all of his offerings, and everything is thrown with confident command. Goddamn. As long as Gausman continues a return to form, we don't need him to be anything but a fifth starter and he's looking great in that role right now (8 innings yes, but the arm looks goooood). The Jays took a swing on this guy with a long term contract and so far I understand why - could be a tremendous signing. As BigCecil said though.... real early. As for the "lack" of pitching depth. When you start the season with a Manoah, White, Rodriguez, Francis to start the season, you just need one or two to pan out and you're hoping on Ricky T. being ready later in the year. The news on Ricky T. is a kick in the balls, but If Manoah continues to progress, he could be another back end starter that can step in. Not sure what the team will allow Rodriguez to build to on pitch count, but I also don't think Francis is a write off just yet.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 The issue is you have two extreme sides that are either really pro-Atkins front office or anti-Atkins front office on this board. When the Blue Jays win, you start to hear the pro-Atkins side getting all cocky crowning Y-Rod as a possible Cy Young contender, Garcia as a possible Mariano Rivera and IKF as such an amazing signing. All after just 20 games this season. Additionally, the pro-Atkins side does fail to recognize or acknowledge some of the teams glaring weaknesses, such as question marks in the lineup or the low ranking farm system. They are blue pilled into an illusion and believing what they want to believe. You'll never convince them otherwise or change their mind. They won't allow any criticism whatsoever of Atkins and this front office. When the Blue Jays lose, you do have some complainers on here or trolls in the GDT's that are way too negative and extreme in calling Atkins and this front office one of the worst, when in reality, Atkins and this front office have done a very good job over the last several years fielding a competitive team. Some of the criticism is ridiculous and they definitely do it to stir stuff up amongst the pro-Atkins group. Blue Jays can't win every game, but with this group it sounds like its all doom and gloom when the Blue Jays lose a game. Lastly, you have posters who are in the middle ground. They're rational in understanding some of the organizational flaws and acknowledge the strengths/weaknesses. They're not too extreme one way or the other, but are realistic when looking at the bigger picture. Always open for discussion without name-calling or insults. Unfortunately the pro-Atkins and anti-Atkins side have taken control of this message board, making some threads insufferable to read through which is likely turning off the posters who fit in this group and even new posters from joining the board.

Sorry but you’ve been anything but rationale, especially post playoff exit. You are single-handedly responsible for some of the most unhinged and whiny rants that this board has seen.
