Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 I guess the main concern aside from durability is fastball shape Hopefully we get some stuff+ type data this spring on him
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 His individual pitches are all incredible but I don't think he works them well in a sequencial way. He needs somebody to really analyze his pitches, movement and delivery to set up hitters better. Each hit off him were off good looking pitches but they almost seemed predictable.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 One too many heaters. When he is full go, you will see more changeups vs RHH. First outing was almost entirely fastball/slider

And if you dont think the Jays have guys that do exactly what you said, i dont know what you think these analytics departments and pitching lab guys do.
philly30 Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 I am guessing in the history of spring training ,these two teams have played against each other more than anyone

I kind of figured that he was just working on making the pitch happen as opposed to working the hitters. But I also thought maybe the analytics guys hadn't had a proper chance to work with him because of his arm soreness.

He wont even see the pitching lab once the season starts. He'll get theory reinforcement from the pitching coach or roving pitching instructors throughout the season.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Some of Richard's pitches that were called balls looked an awful lot like strikes to me. Could be just the tv.

If its the up and down part.. its the TV. Following on baseball savant this ump has been calling a very good game. No missed calls on any of Richards pitches.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Jansen smoked that ball with an xBA of .800. Unlucky
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Yeah I figured it was tv. I figured the hitters should have been swinging more than they were.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Bases loaded single by Vlad, gets thrown out tryin to get 2nd out of it
43211234 Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Vlad is such a terrible baserunner
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Poor awareness there by Vlady even with Schwarbers noodle arm, improve your damn base running
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Poor awareness there by Vlady even with Schwarbers noodle arm, improve your damn base running That's just it though, you have to know he has a noodle arm and is likely to have the ball either cut (like it was early in the game) or thrown directly to second most of the time. Take the wide turn for sure but he was 2/3rds of the way to 2b. That's a bit too wide.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Wow, very nice play by Vlad to make up for his stupidity on the bases. That was pretty sick
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Interesting Need to check out the FB shape and compare it to some other good lefties

Yes you're correct I remember he used to routinely take the extra base in AAA, I automatically assumed he was a great baserunner - for doing so. but up here it seems like a lack of focus / baseball instinct or whatever - it's not good
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 IKF is lost at the plate, can't say it's surprising
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Is Parsons actually good? F me this team has oodles of pitching with guys like Francis and White figuring it out, Parsons maybe even being something, RT, Yariel, Dallas starting AAA Manoah was probably f***ed even if his shoulder wasn't FUBAR

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 I know it's early but Springer looks washed. hmmmmmm
