Goldschmidt showed signs of life and put up a 120 wRC+ in the second half. The Yankees seem to have a lot of success helping turn guys around at the plate and based on his expected stats Yankee stadium would add a handful of home runs onto his record so the Yankees may get decent value out of this signing.

Hitting is contagious. Team struggling. Players pressings. Last year was the only year Goldy had an OPS south of .800. His walk rate plummeted. Maybe he was 100% healthy at some point. He was a very enticing low risk bounce back candidate. 1 year gamble. Not huge dollars. Now the Yankees have him and they are set up to offer Vlad huge money next year.

Caba's good, but the other dude is a no power lotto ticket, that's really light I believe...

Headshot of Starlyn Caba

3. Starlyn Caba

SS

Ht: 5'10" | Wt: 160 | B-T: S-R

Age: null

BA Grade/Risk: 55/High.

Track Record: Caba earned the biggest bonus in the Phillies’ 2023 international signing class and impressed in his pro debut, which was limited to just 38 games because of a left elbow injury that required season-ending surgery. He moved to the Rookie-level Florida Complex League in 2024 and showed no signs of rust. His year was impressive enough to nab the No. 1 spot on the FCL top 20 prospects list and earn a 26-game run at Low-A Clearwater from July 24 until the end of the season.

Scouting Report: Caba is the best infield defender in the Phillies’ system and among the very best in the entire sport. Conservative graders call Caba’s glovework double-plus, while many others are comfortable calling it a true 80-grade tool that will one day make him the centerpiece of Philadelphia’s infield. His hands and feet are exemplary. He has range to both sides and the quick-twitch athleticism to react in plenty of time to snare hard line drives and grounders hit his way. At the plate, Caba was incredibly selective and rarely strayed from the strike zone during his time in FCL, where his 51 walks led the league and far outpaced his 34 strikeouts. He has a simple swing from both sides of the plate geared to shoot line drives to the gaps and let his plus speed take over. His power is likely to be fringy at the highest level, but bat-to-ball skills and gold-standard defense will carry the bulk of his value.

The Future: Caba will head back to Low-A Clearwater in 2025, where he’ll test his mettle against better pitching and a tighter strike zone governed by the Florida State League’s automated ball-strike system. If he reaches his ceiling, he could be an all-star who hits at the top of a lineup and fills a trophy case with Gold Gloves.

Scouting Grades Hit: 60 | Power: 45 | Run: 60 | Fielding: 80 | Arm: 55

I don’t think Vlad and Naylor can coexist on the same team and the Jays aren’t trading for Vladdy’s replacement before moving him. Naylor never made much sense tbh

Yeah realistically if they acquired Naylor then they likely had to DH one of them regularly, or put Vlad at 3B full time, and they probably didn’t want to do either of those things. Naylor is more realistic as Vlad’s replacement next year if he leaves.

The Jays are either legitimately in on Burnes or are waiting out the Teo/Tony markets because as more backup options start going elsewhere it leaves them in a very difficult spot.

That's it? lulz

Would have been a really nice fit here in Toronto. He would have been a nice arm to slot in behind Gausman.

That would have likely been an Orelvis and some 19 year old lotto ticket that suxxxxx in low A... Agreed.

He’s probably a target next year you’re right that wouldn’t surprise me. But trying to squeeze them both into this lineup would be difficult without moving Vlad to third

Yeah, but we did that last year and came away with panic purchases of Turner and KK.

I suppose

They keep prioritizing defense so yes it's hard to see them being OK with Vlad at 3B full time

He's a 1B though and was traded?

No he wasn’t traded

Nobody wants to sign him

Nobody wants to take the Jays money

Match made in heaven. Grab your OF glove Pete you’re moving to Toronto

I thought you were reacting to the Nathaniel Lowe trade. IDK.

Nate Lowe the latest 1B to get traded for cheap

Pete Alonso trending towards a 1 year pillow

And Vladdy thinks someone will give him half a billion dollars??

I mean he is better than those two but how much does he really think he's going to get in free agency.

Sean Manaea is re-signing with the Mets at 75/3.

The going rate for a mid-rotation starter these days geez.

Jays likely aren't signing any of these guys so don't get your hopes up! Maybe Charlie Morton on a one-year deal.

Reported that the Rangers have signed Joc Pederson to a two-year deal worth $37M.

Shocked he got that much AAV and for two-years. If the Jays wanted to sign him, likely would have had to go 2/$40M which would have been a pass from me.

Joc has been off the board for over 50 mins and none of you nerds have posted it yet?

To Texas 2yr $37m

I just did meat, before you!

When I was writing my post no one had posted yet. You must have finished 30 seconds before me. That’s ok, in my experience my partners tend to enjoy that additional minute.

Players are flying off the market. I guess it'll be time to officially panic once Burnes/Teo/Bregman/Santandar fall off the board lol.
