Someone just asked were Mookie is going to play in 2025...the answer is SS.

 

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes told reporters at the Winter Meetings that Mookie Betts is preparing to play shortstop next season.

 

Gomes, who added that recently-extended Tommy Edman will play center field next year, told reporters last month that plan was for Betts to move back to the infield next season and we now have confirmation that he’ll be Los Angeles’ starting shortstop heading into the 2025 campaign.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes told reporters at the Winter Meetings that Mookie Betts is preparing to play shortstop next season.

 

Gomes, who added that recently-extended Tommy Edman will play center field next year, told reporters last month that plan was for Betts to move back to the infield next season and we now have confirmation that he’ll be Los Angeles’ starting shortstop heading into the 2025 campaign.

 

It's pretty incredible that he is a plus defender pretty much anywhere you play him

He is, but that isn't surprising, given how little he's played there since HS/College. It's incredible how versatile he is. If there's anyone who can transform themselves from a RFer into an average defensive SS, it's Mookie.

 

Yeah, I'm not taking away his athleticism, to morph into a super utility guy on the fly is impressive.

Maybe they feel Heineman can be above replacement level in a full season as backup, on the back of his defense.

 

We surely would still need more depth at the position though. Kirk has never started more than 90 games behind the plate or completed more than 80. It doesn't seem safe to assume his backup will be seeing less than 60 games.

I liked the idea of upgrading the spot when there were clear upgrades available, but now maybe it's better to roll with the min. cost option there and spend those couple/few million towards other help.
