Choices are running out fast once Teo re-signs and Soto goes elsewhere. This team needs at least 2 players from the following this off-season. Bregman/O'Neill or Kim/Santander would be the realistic options as I'd prefer to keep Vladdy at 1B longterm.

Tier 1 - Santander, Bregman, Walker, Alonso

Tier 2 - Kim, O'Neil

At this point I am thinking best case scenario is sign the two Baltimore guys.

Burnes gives us a top or the league rotation, pushes Yarriel to bullpen where he belongs for now.

Santander gives us switch hitting power. Although with his frequent swing and miss stuff, he might not be what our front office targets

Literally the minute I posted that, this news drops... the panic meter is slowly rising... not there yet but I'm inching towards the button lol.

This feels like groundhog day. Jays all in on Ohtani...I mean Soto and all the guys they should have signed are off the board and they get stuck with s***. The only difference is at the end of this season we lose bo and Vlad and become irrelevant. Shatkins should have lost their jobs this off season.

The Orioles have agreed to a one-year deal with catcher Gary Sanchez, according to a report from Jon Heyman of The New York Post, who adds that the deal guarantees Sanchez $8.5MM.

Seems like the Oriokes know they're not keeping Santander right?

Yup for sure. They probably made a better deal getting O'Neil + a comp pick knowing Santander is about to get overpaid by us once Soto signs elsewhere lol.

Orioles aren’t exactly hurting for offense, plus they have several young blossoming start they need to think about extending.

Overpaying Santander could mean letting one of Adley/Gunnar/Holliday walk.

For the Jays, overpaying Santander doesn’t change much since the team probably needs a rebuild very soon. Payroll will be lean so we can afford Santa.

Not a bad deal at all. If the Jays signed O'Neill to that, wouldn't complain.

Orioles found their Santander replacement.

Chappy 5.5 WAR + Adames 4.8 in 2024 with 59 jacks combined.

If they can pull 10.3 WAR off again, or close to it, in 2025 thats a nice SS/3B duo for that side of the IF.

Welcome back!

Here's how Fangraphs Depth Charts WAR projections currently projects the Jays by position:

Total: 40.2 fWAR (8th in AL)

Position players: 28.5 fWAR (4th in AL)

SP: 10.6 fWAR (12th in AL)

RP: 1.1 fWAR (13th in AL)

Position player breakdown:

C: 4.8 fWAR (3rd in AL)

1B: 4.7 fWAR (1st in AL)

2B: 3.4 fWAR (4th in AL)

SS: 3.8 fWAR (6th in AL)

3B: 3.2 fWAR (6th in AL)

LF: 1.3 fWAR (15th in AL)

CF: 3.2 fWAR (6th in AL)

RF: 2 fWAR (11th in AL)

DH: 2 fWAR (4th in AL)

Starters and relievers combine to project to be 4th worst in the American League, so I'm not sure the pitching staff holes can be left unplugged.

Might be better to leave the hole in LF unplugged if need be, as the position player group already projects to be 4th best in the American League. Or just leave bullpen holes unplugged because big dollars shouldn't be spent there anyway.

That's an 85/86 win team for projections, not so bad.

Best non-arbitration asset the Jays have? Gausman probably is still IMO. Agree that the Berrios contract doesn't look that bad if we see the 2023 Berrios moving forward. Last season's version of Berrios however posted a 4.72 FIP, career low 7.16 K/9 and only 1 WAR which is concerning. Still would be open to moving him if another team absorbed his entire contract. There might be a possibility given the expensive price tag for starting pitching.

The hope is he bounces back to being a 2-3 WAR arm like he was in 2023. If we see the 2022 and 2024 version which barely cracks 1 WAR, those latter years are going to be tough to swallow.

RA9 - 3.7... 22nd in MLB.

Berrios' player options are at $25m per year. I know the market for SP's is sky high now but I'd still be pretty surprised if he opts out. Obviously what he does in 2025-26 will be a big factor in that decision.

He won't opt out. Not that I believe, anyway.

Willy Adames is signing with the Giants.

Straight cash homie, it's certainly a sellers market.

The Giants finally got somebody to take their money

Fantasy value nuked

There’s your Bregman contract comparison. No thank you

100% percent, no thanks, lol

So they want him to start, interesting.

Another interesting situation of similar note is Soroka, didn't realize he was so dominant in a short stint as an RP, but apparently teams are still looking at him as a starter.

At the right price, he could almost be a hedge bet to Yariel. Have them battle it out to earn a starter spot and the other can stay stretched out as a multi inning RP.

Yeah would be a nice depth arm who likely would sign here for a couple of million. Would be nice competition for the No. 5 spot with Y-Rod and whatever arm loses out you make a multi-inning RP.

I'm not 100% sure the O's aren't currently in a very similar position as they Jays were in 2000-2022. Great young team, no playoff wins.

They'll need to continue generating the next wave of talent if they are going to be "what we were promised" and they'll need to break thru in the playoffs at some point. I think it remains to be seen if that happens.

Imagine if Baltimore took their payroll to the luxury tax level like the Jays did. Even after the O'Neill signing they have 110 mil in luxury tax space. They have the money to bring back Burnes, Sign Fried and they still have money to spend.
