Been a pretty good spring for the Jays. Gausman is having a slow start and Jansen got hurt. Manoah also continues to be a turd. But everything else is fine so far and the pitching depth looks much improved.

Meanwhile:

-Orioles rotation depth taking hits with Bradish and Means getting hurt

-Rays have a ton of things going on, Deluca, Walls, Baz, Bradley, etc.

-Red Sox lose Giolito, Grissom won't be ready for Opening Day

-Yanks lose Cole for at least 2 months which is pretty devastating for them, Rodon looks cooked, Judge is already dinged up

The playoffs will be easy to make

Can we go back to playing your own division more please.

Nester Cortes is Opening Day for the Yankees lol

Orioles are going to steam roll this division I would not be shocked if they had 40 wins in the their first 50 games.

Would you take Cortes over Berrios on opening day this year?

JD Davis to the A's

Damn, dude would have made like 2x the money this year if he had accepted SF's pre-arb offer.

Yeah, that's crazy cheap. He quite likely puts up 2-3 WAR in 400PAs.

The Jays are the only dumbasses that pay a premium for defensive WAR

I actually like the Cease deal for the Padres. I envision him having a 1.50 ERA at Petco. Padres could probably flip him for an equivalent or better package at the deadline if they are out of it.

We are going to slap hit our way to the AL East title this year Connor and you're going to love it

Davis isn't likely to provide a lot of defensive value though unless the 2023 OAA improvements stick. His typical defensive metrics at third base are really bad with an outlier uptick in OAA in 2023 with a super negative DRS value.

The "good deal for both teams" platitude applies

His elbow is f***ed and everyone knows it, even the Yankees.

UCL injuries aren't acute, they are caused by repetitive stress. So it's not like he snapped off one particular slider at a weird angle that caused this specific injury and that with rest it will go back to normal. Over time his ligament has been put under duress and now it's to the point where it's damaged. The second he starts putting that ligament under duress again it's only a matter of time before it snaps.

It happens all the time. Marlins tried resting Alcantara last year and the Orioles tried resting Bautista too. It didn't work.

So the Yankees are going to prolong this a couple of months because they are desperate to get him back on the field. He'll come out and pitch for a little while but then he'll need Tommy John and he'll miss all of next year too.

I don't disagree with what you say, but you could understand the Yankees going this route after Tanaka. Tommy John was just a matter of time for Tanka for 6 years until he finished his contract and just avoided it completely.

It's soooo rare though, they'll end up losing him for another half season when it fails, same with Bradish.

The funny thing with Cole is the SPIN

The Yankees are trying very hard to avoid the headline of "Gerrit Cole chooses to try rehab route on damaged UCL"

I mean mlbtr literally had the headline as something like Gerrit Cole chooses to rehab.... then changed it to something like Cole not recommended for surgery.

Ultimately it's the players choice.

I bet the doctors saw a UCL stretched like a piece of spaghetti and recommended surgery. Cole probably wants to try rehab and thinks he's Tanaka, thinks he's special.

The timing of it is just so comically awful for the Yanks. They trade for one year of Soto and in that same year Cole gets hurt.

The WAR gained from Soto is almost lost due to the injury to Cole.

Let's not forget that Erin Smudge has an oblique strain or whatever already

These dudes are all signing for nothing lol

Feels bad

It's not that bad. There are much worse mistakes to make in baseball than spending $5M too much on KK or $10M too much on Falaffle. Whatever.

WTF minor league deal for Domingo German

I was thinking he was as Bauer’d. A lot of teams prob did pass on him for non-baseball reasons. He hasn’t had any ST, so makes sense for a guy that is likely happy that he could get anything. The Pirates will wash him and maybe he’s worth something at the deadline.

I saw that, hence I deleted my post. I guess not before you regulated.

I have to have some legit value here, other than entertainment.

Pirates get a good pitcher for basically free, he won't be ready for ST but he'll be starting there in short order after April. Wish the Jays had the balls to sign him.

Dirt cheap but happy not to have him.

Other than the perfect game against an AAAA squad I must have missed the memo on Domingo German being good? Might as well go see if Drew Hutchison is still an active pitcher and sign him again.
