If they win 90 games with Josh Lowe as their best hitter I will puke

It actually kind of seems like the year they win like 70 games. The roster is not good.

That said, I’ve thought that before and then they won 90 games.

Yeah the Rays have a great system in place that allows them to make the most of a revolving door of players giving them the edge in matchups over a full season. Then the playoffs start and they have to settle on 26 guys, and those 26 guys can't get it done. Their depth serves them incredibly well over 162 games, but means nothing in a playoff series.

Siri + Caballeto + Pinto might be one too many nothing hitters for the regular lineup.

I know it's the Rays and they know what they are doing but I don't love anybody in the rotation after Eflin, either.

Even their good plays have obvious flaws. Yandy Diaz has hit for power once, Arozarena has whiff issues, Lowe is a platoon player, J Lowe might be a platoon player

Zack Littell is their #3 starter lmao. If this roster belonged to basically any other team people would be clowning on it. They were mediocre last year after the hot start, then lost Franco, then just didn't try to replace him.

Plus Franco is gone gone gone of course

Pinto is the only catcher on their 40 man at the moment. Must have been a busy day for him today.

But one clear spot they could go out and upgrade, depending on what's out there.

Free Mike Trout!!!

He had his chance to leave and stayed. Angels are the same s***** franchise they always been and he knew what he was getting and took the money. He is getting what he signed up for.

Manfred will not be seeking another term as MLB commissioner when his current term runs out in 2029.

Love him or hate him, baseball is on an upward trajectory.

Yeah I don't really like him and think he could have handled some things a lot better but his overall legacy will be a net positive:

Astros Sign Stealing Scandal: Didn't punish the players, handled poorly

Covid: got the players to play, probably a net positive here

Relocating the All-Star Game: This was really, really stupid

2021 Lockout- Got a full season in and this has been forgotten, good job

World Baseball Classic: he pushed this and I think it was good

Oakland A's: He gets hammered for this one and he handled it poorly but ultimately moving the A's to Vegas will be good

Rules Changes: Awesome

Kyle Bradish has a strained UCL

Kyle Bradish (elbow) said Friday that he’s very confident he’ll pitch this season.

Bradish is scheduled to resume throwing Friday for the first time since receiving a PRP injection to address a right elbow sprain. The history of pitchers opting for the rest and recovery route, instead of surgery, following a UCL injury isn’t all that encouraging. However, we’re not willing to rule out the possibility that Bradish will ultimately be able to make it back and pitch this season.

What I heard on a podcast is that this new "internal brace" procedure for partial tears makes it easier for teams to try the recovery route.

If he has traditional TJS today, he might not be in games again until June 2025 (16 months).

But the internal brace thing tends to be much closer to an actual one year recovery. So he could try to rehab for the next 6 weeks and if it doesn't work, he could have internal brace TJS before April and still maybe be in games in April 2025.

Padres are moving Bogaerts to 2B, one year into his contract

What a horrible execution of... everything... by the Padres.

I guess this lets them slide Jackson Merrill into the SS role without obstruction when he is ready. Kim being the SS in the short term may be a better alignment.

I'm hoping Toronto is able to snatch Tatis from the wreckage a year or two from now

Did they say why? He was a 9.3 and 6.0 in DEF the last 2 years. That's miles ahead of Bo (and yes I know DEF isn't perfect)

It seems like the justification right now is just that they want Kim at SS.

Reading between those lines, the actual justification is probably multitudes:

- Kim is a better SS right now

- Kim has more trade value if he is picking it at short and looks great

- Jackson Merrill's natural position is SS

I guess. This might come back to bite them though. Kim's a FA at the end of the year and Merrill didn't exactly light it up with the bat in A/AA last year. If he takes a step back this year, there's a chance they need to move Bogearts back to SS for the 2025 and even the 2026 season. I'm not sure you see a lot of SS move off the position and then actually return to play it again. Like Semien never returned to SS (that's the person that comes to mind).

Yeah when these shortstops turn 30 and move off the position it tends to be lights out

There are actually very few 31+ year old full time SS in MLB at any given time, guys like Brandon Crawford playing SS at 34 are dinosaurs
