I don't see the insanity. For his 21 year career from 1939 to 1960, with a 3 year absence during his peak to fight in WWII, Ted Williams has a .344/.482/.634 line. Now, THAT is insane.

He never fought in WW2, he became a naval aviator and was a flight instructor. He was deployed and flew missions during the Korean war in an absence you didn't mention.

Side note: Why is the fact that he served in WW2 but never deployed always the big thing that people talk about and never mention the Korean war when he actually went into combat? one of those Mandela effects?

It is not if they fought. It is the fact they were away from baseball for a period due to a war. This needs to be considered when comparing players of that era against peers and for the HoF etc.

I understand that. But why does everyone skip the Korean war and only mention ww2 as THAT being the defining period of his missed time?

He even fought his eligibility status and only went after a public backlash against him and he lost his sponsors. I don't blame him for that, just that people hold him up like a shining example.or heroism because WW2 when they don't even know the basics of the story

The Rangers announced the signing of reliever David Robertson to a one-year deal with a mutual option for 2025. The right-hander, who is self-represented, is reportedly guaranteed $11.5MM. He’ll make just $5MM in 2024 and is guaranteed the $1.5MM buyout on the option, which is valued at $7MM. The final $5MM is deferred, with $1MM paid annually between 2027-31.

He will appear in 59 games

If he signed that deal with the Jays, he would have triggered that player option by July.

I’m now 100% confident that Atkins is signing Soler or JDM. No way they don’t beat that if they were interested in Pederson.

Would be disappointing if the Jays don't land one of Soler or JDM now. Pederson at under $10M would have been really nice. Could have easily beat that offer if they wanted to.

That's a busy contract, I like that for both sides...

The deal guarantees Keith $28.6425MM and could max out at $82MM over nine years if all three options are escalated and exercised. In addition to a $2MM signing bonus, Keith will earn $2.5MM in salary for the 2024 campaign, $3.5MM in 2025, $4MM per season in 2026 and ’27, and $5MM per season in 2028 and ’29. Before escalators, the 2030 club option is valued at $10MM with a $2.6425MM buyout while the 2031 option is valued at $13MM with a $1MM buyout and the 2032 option is valued at $15MM with a $2MM buyout.

Don't hate it. Don't love it for the Tigers

$32M guaranteed over his arb year is what Matt Chapman made over his pre free agent years. It's a nice goodwill signing from Detroit's point of view as they don't need to manipulate to gain 2030. But I don't think there is a lot of surplus in it unless he becomes a star.
