Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Your not getting Jung Hoo lee for that, guarenteed over 100 million or theres something wrong with 30 gms out there that is literally the Fangraphs contract prediction they have been pretty close on everything else, except for Ohtani
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Not many candidates to take on from those 5 teams. I can't see taking Correa, Bogaerts, Machado, Cronenworth, or Yelich as reasonable decisions. Can't see Cleveland trading Ramirez or Gimenez, or SDP trading Tatis. Actually, Yelich vs. Bellinger is funny. Yelich has 5/$130M left and is 32. Bellinger probably wants 8/$200 or so and is 28. Both coming off a 4.1 fWAR year. Adames and Burnes are options, though both would be rentals, and Adames would have to play 3B here, which I'm not sure is the best use for him given how great he is defensively at SS. I don't expect it to happen but trading Bichette for a bunch of pieces and then trading what shouldn't be that much for Adames would be a slick use of assets. I would imagine it would cost a lot less to extend Adames than it will to extend Bo, so there might be an opportunity there to pivot off Bo without losing much in terms of short and long term WAR/value. Probably not the best PR move to trade Bo right now, though. Beyond that not sure what could come from poaching guys with salaries on other teams. Maybe Max Kepler from Minnesota? Though his cost is pretty reasonable for 2024. I guess I just don't want to see Bellinger or Chapman signed. Anything else and I'll probably learn to live with it.
mikepelfrey Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 doubt that happens according to the Japanese media Yamamoto's idol was Hideki Matsui, and the Yankees have him working to encourage him to sign. for a guy who has said he wants to sign in NY And be part of that iconic franchise. I doubt Toronto has a realistic Chance.Even Steve Cohen said he wont be outbid for Yamamoto, has acknowledged if he's set on being a Yankee, there's not much more I can do.
wamco Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I'm not sure I like the idea of Schneider full time at 3rd. I think ideally he slots in as a guy who is more of a super utility and maybe plays 4-5 times a week between 2nd, 3rd, lf, dh, etc. I don't like selling low on Manoah either. I think we need to slot him into the #5 spot and give him the rope to work through it (assuming he hasn't already this offseason). I kinda feel like we have to go after Bellinger, as scary as that is. Schneider is the next Jeff Kent, mustache and all. Well at least I hope so
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Schneider is the next Jeff Kent, mustache and all. Well at least I hope so I guess he's getting traded then.
BatFlip Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I hate all of this except for Yamamoto I am signing: OF --- Jung-Hoo Lee (4/$60) or Brantley (1/$10) DH/1B --- Belt (1/$8) or JDM (1/$12) or Pederson (1/$12) SP --- Paxton (1/$10) or Montas (1/$8) IF --- some 1 year geezer like Longoria or Urshela or Tim Anderson Schneider is my 2B. I'd sign someone like Tony Kemp to be the 2B/OF guy on the bench. 1 WAR projection. Basically, just patch all the holes with the best 1 year commitment you can find. Work the trade table hard all offseason for better players. I also see this as the best route for FA (I'm on the fence on Jung-Hoo Lee, but everything else makes perfect sense). Keep working trades hard, but don't make any panic moves.
Delgalladay Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 - Blow their load on Yamamoto for like 10/270 or whatever if they think he's an ace I bet he gets more than $300M from one of the New York teams (or the Dodgers).
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 yankees already said there going 300 mill for yamma, so thats the starting point. gl with that....let the mets drive up the yankees and focus on Lee +++++++

I can see this working but get rid of your dh candidates and your IF suggestion and give me Jorge Soler (2/$32M) and put Rhys Hoskins at 3b for 4/$80 or 3/$65.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Like Rhys Hoskins is ok but give me Votto for 13 million or Belt for like 12
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 While Hoskins (at DH, not 3B) would be a fit, it sounded like Boras was going to try to do the 1+1 deal for him where he has a player opt out in year 2. Not sure I'd want to do that for a 1B coming off a torn ACL. If it's a straight 1 year deal, then that makes more sense for the team. If I had to guess, I'm expecting the Jays to finally get Michael Brantley. A few years too late, but maybe there's a dead cat bounce back there. JDM would also make sense but he seems to have more of a market.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Best Bang for your Buck experience plus clutchness. And if they get hurt you il them and have a suitable back up
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Holy f*** 680 million of the 700 is deferred. Sho is getting 2 million per year for the length of the contract and then the rest in yearly installments untill 2044. How the f*** can the league approve this type of s***. Oh and I should mention no f***ing interest.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 68M out of 70M of Ohtani's annual salary is deferred. How the f*** is this allowed?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Yeah this shouldn't be allowed.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Like I said at least the league gives out competitive balance picks to help level the playing field 🙄
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Yeah this shouldn't be allowed. That's ********!
BaseballIsLife Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Lmao, Bobbie Manfred’s mlb everyone
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Yeah this shouldn't be allowed. I can't believe how good for baseball this is
Marew Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 He doesn’t care about interest because he took 100m-150m over what his market value should have been with injuries etc. he will probably be getting 30-50m in endorsements anyway so what does he care. Walk away in 10 years with 1b after tax if he invests it wisely
godJPA Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Sarcastic I hope? The biggest free agent in history signing a ******** deal like this is an absolute joke.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 That’s absolute horseshit. You shouldn’t be able to defer more than something like 10% of the contract but your salary towards the luxury tax should be an average for the contract length less deferrals per year. If any other team did this I guarantee the MLB wouldn’t approve it. I imagine next CBA is going to have a massive lock out.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Shoeheis choice....let it be...
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Jays shouldve offered more if he was willing to defer that much lmao

But... have you considered how good for baseball it is that Ohtani joins a team that already averages like 103 wins a year without him?

Okay maybe not at third rather 1b/dh but do You guys want to pay nine digits to have Chappy back? No. Perhaps just plug the hole with IKF or make a deal for Paredes. Edited December 11, 2023 by Omar

I speculated earlier that the reason the deal has not been announced formally is because there might be some protests due to potentially extreme deferrals. I had not actually expected them to be THIS extreme. This is just pure horseshit.
