Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Why waste time with a moron?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Wait what? I've been a huge KK guy all along. I was anti Varsho and anti Swanson trade. And for the record, I'm anti letting KK go (who is the better player in every facet) just to double down on Varsho's scrubby ass so he can play CF to justify the pathetic trade. is KK really better than Gurriel at this stage of his career? Most of Varsho's WAR came from CF defense, which won't happen as much here. Don't forget that to get all those players, we had to give up Moreno and a comp pick from the Bassit signing too. Those assets could have been used to improve elsewhere. As a Jays fan, I'll still be excited to see how we performing this upcoming season but I'm definitely saddened at losing Teo for next year and Moreno in the long term. So we're expecting KK to get better after coming off a major Hip injury? His whole game is based on speed. Gurriel is the better overall player between the two for next season in my eyes. Yes, I just saw Varsho's breakdown defensively. It's impressive no doubt and exactly what we needed on this team long term. Just not a fan of the price. ...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Show up those receipts, Spanky or stfu lol How about you stfu, meat.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Connor cracked the code you guys. Christian Walker and Ketel Marte (both with career a OPS under .800) are the true "star bats" necessary for playoff baseball success. Someone get Andrew Friedman on the phone because Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman ain't it. You need real stars like Christian Walker and Ketel Marte. Again, this is just such a stupid comeback like “I know you are but what am I” or something… like you can have Mike Trout and there no guarantee he hits. You’re simply doing things you can to improve your odds. Having big bats is one of those things.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 Looking forward to enjoying Game 7 tonight! Couldn't care less about the arguing and bickering whether the D'Backs or Jays are better lol. You guys are too much!
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Corbin Carroll is their only star Marte is up and down. He hit 12 homers last year. 94 wRC+ in 2020. Christian Walker's 120 wRC+ this year was worse than Belt, Bo, and about tied with Vlad. If he's a star then Brandon Belt should have carried Toronto! Moreno was a 7 HR rookie, lol. He was out fWAR'd by Davis Schneider. I cashed in on buying Marte on the cheap, so I don’t share your opinion there. Why would you quote anything other than OPS? If someone has an .830 OPS and 33hr, why would i care how that stacks up against to the other 1b in the league in this situation?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 If Marte was a Blue Jay, it would have been "what a great buy low from Ross Atkins and Marte is for real." Since Marte plays for another team, he's just been lucky and his bounce back is a fluke.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 He's good he's just not, you know, a big star

That sounds suspiciously similar to your tact when it comes to evaluating the offseason moves of the Blue Jays front office. Free agent signings that were massive hits such as Kiermaier and Belt were deemed to be "lucky", but then returning roster players who massively underperformed even the most modest of projections were deemed to be miscalculations by the front office.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 He's good he's just not, you know, a big star .844 is a big bat. .900 is more star territory. There’s only so many stars to go around.

Belt and KK at this stage in their careers aren't in the same conversation of players like Marte. C'mon Max, be better! Yes the signings of Belt and KK by this front office were terrific pickups as buy low FA's. Sometimes they work or sometimes they don't. So yeah the Jays definitely got lucky Belt and KK performed the way they did.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 lol... Spanky sit's on the sidelines posting "LOL" haha classic Spanky!

So I should side with connor, the guy gets dunked on left right and centre cause he's a sieve. Okay, bro... write us an essay up how he's correct, have at it. Or your basic comment about Marte? No thanks, man.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 So you're saying the Jays didn't get lucky with the Belt and KK signings this year? Why is it being framed as luck when having success signing value priced bounce back options out of free agency? This front office has had a ton of success on these types of signings, such as Semien, Ray, and now Belt and Kiermaier as well. It's too bad they weren't able to get Semien signed long term but he's the only one of the bunch I would have been interested in anyway.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 You guys should argue whether or not chemtrails should be classified as clouds after you’re finished
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 connorp are you not reading Semantics. Marte ranked 14th in the NL in OPS. Carroll 9, Walker 16. There’s 15 teams. What’s a star bat, idk
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Bo ranked #15 and would probably classify the same way, but he also did his job.
