Steeljays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 What do the Jays do with Chapman Terrible hitting strikes out twice a game Chapman is a guy that needs to look for and hit the 1st and 2nd pitches. Once he has 2 strikes it's over. But to answer, it's think it depends on what they think of Barger. I would not give a multi to him
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Plenty here would’ve been good with that in May Not me.
Zacman Verified Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 WOOOOOOOOooo... winner winner, chicken dinner!!! It's been a good night overall.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Manoah won't even report to pitch. I'm guessing he won't respond well to weight comments I think we're seeing his reaction, there's no doubt they've been told by the FO about their weight, we'll see in February, with all the culprits who took it serious.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Vlad kinda looks locked in for the first time in MONTHS... Bullpen was godly today. Romano especially.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Vlad kinda looks locked in for the first time in MONTHS... Bullpen was godly today. Romano especially. Maybe at the plate. On the bases he still the single dumbest baserunner by far on the team.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Jays are gonna f*** around until the Redsox score 2 in the top; they’ll then score 1 in the bottom. Final score of 4-3. I’m guessing the 13th inning. Oops!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Ya, some people talking a 2/25 deal or more. Pass. Very useful player but will be under 2 WAR and he isn't getting younger or faster. I'd do 2/25 for Whit.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Today, the Blue Jays pulled a Homer. For the non-Simpson watchers out there, pulling a Homer is defined as succeeding despite idiocy. D'oh!!!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I'd do 2/25 for Whit. Why?? Schneider can fill the same role and is likely better. Cheaper. Younger. This is Whit’s best year in a while, it would be a mistake to give him a contract like that

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I'd do 2/25 for Whit. Not a chance I'm done with him. He's been a disaster for weeks.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Motherf***er takes all the joy out of this win. I would absolutely support benching him, I would absolutely support asking him not to come back to the team this year. I don't give a f*** about the home runs he's been hitting, I don't give a f*** about what his name is, the entitlement of this f***ing *******, the arrogance and utter cluelessness with the f***ing Gatorade shower afterward. Get the f*** off the team already. lol... dude's Pist!
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Zero need to bring Whit back now. That’s Schneider’s role and there are like 5 at least mildly interesting 2B/3B guys in the system. Need an OF masher
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Vlad kinda looks locked in for the first time in MONTHS... Bullpen was godly today. Romano especially. 3 dingers after you said he needs a 20 homer 3 week streak, lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Whit has kinda fallen off a cliff. We have tons of internal replacements for the positions he plays.

DS is running well on a heater, I doubt there's trust their yet, I could be wrong, either way I wouldn't worry about it.

However, I want to see more of his dee - I think the sample size is a bit too small. The bat thought is absoletely wonderful - big fan. and yes need a BIG BAT LF

DS is running well on a heater, I doubt there's trust their yet, I could be wrong, either way I wouldn't worry about it. Other areas of need. Going after a strong OF bat or 3B, 5th starter, bullpen addition should take priority over signing Whit

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I'd do 2/25 for Whit. Whit has no place on this team next year. I’m not giving that kind of money with what guys like Schneider clement horowitz are showing and Orelvis Martinez should be an option at some point next year. I’d rather give Ryu a one possibly 2 year deal at a reduced AAV than what he’s on.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I'd do 2/25 for Whit. Still a lot of money and years to tie up to an aging player. Would rather the Jays use that money elsewhere on the roster. I'm fine with DS and using Biggio part-time at 2B next season or try to acquire an elite 2B. If money is no issue though, then fine bring him back on a 1-year deal for depth purposes.

I'd like to see Teo back on a pillow deal.

I'd like to see Teo back on a pillow deal. If going over the luxury tax is not an issue, then yeah $10M for Merrifield isn't a problem. Provides some depth at 2B and in the OF, some speed on the base paths. If an injury happens, he could step in and start over a couple of weeks which won't hurt you. Can't afford to be giving players like Espinal or Tapia ABs on a team with World Series aspirations. If the Jays are worried about going over the luxury tax, then I think that $10M is better utilized elsewhere on the roster. Teo likely gets a 2 year deal or something given his strong finish to the season. Teo would be nice, but this team still needs another elite player who can post 4-5 WAR. You can't rely on Vladdy to be that guy. Can't mess around in 2024.

I guess there's always trade, but I think there's limited moves and we could stay in house, but not like saskjaysfan suggests, that's far too many rookies in a contending year, I'm not sold on the Babe yet, he's been exceptional but it's such a small sample. I think they'll be somewhere near the tax threshold again. We aren't going to see a 4/5 Win player. Candelario, Ryu and someone like Whit would be my wishlist atm on top of Teo. Will be an interesting off season.

I think heading into 2024, you can't rely on Vladdy being his 2021 self. Need to get another elite player to pair with Bo. Vladdy is capable of returning to his 2021 levels and if he does, added bonus! The only 4 to 5 WAR player the Jays have a chance signing is Bellinger, but tying up a lot of money like 6 or 7 years at $25M+ is a lot. Jays will attach a QO on Chapman, but he'll likely not accept. If Chapman comes on a 1-year-deal pillow deal, great but he still likely gets a multi-year deal from someone since 3B is a weak market. Given the Jays offensive struggles this year, think moving on from Chapman isn't a bad thing. Don't really want a guy who hits .220/.330/.430 as one of your main middle-of-the-order bats. Teo is definitely possible IMO and would be a fantastic fit. Hope we see the Jays active though on the trade front.
