Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 This is because Shapiro has always had a two birds in the bush is better than a bird in the hand philosophy. With Shapiro at the helm, that 2016 Indians Team never kicks our ass with Miller in the pen. Say all you want about how good the 2021 team was but it didn’t even make the expanded wild card. Again, the Jays with Shapiro at the helm were being too conservative and they didn’t boost their **** pen enough and early enough (familiar theme) and it cost them. Like L54 said, banners fly forever. I don’t give a hoot what AA left us (which wasn’t that bad) I am still vibing off the 2015 season to this day. Nothing has even come close! As a fan, I want that high again and that is what I want from my FO. I agree - this FO has been more conservative, seemingly in an attempt for sustainable winning. The 2015 team wasn't much different than the 2021 team. The difference was AA knew EE/JB were near the end of their run and they went for it. Atkins had Vlad, Bo, Springer, etc. in, or entering their primes, with several big time prospects on the cusp. They chose to be less aggressive to keep the window open longer. In hindsight, most/all the prospects were busts, the core went rotten and they ought to have went all in back in 2021 - but I don't think anyone would have been stoked at a 1-2 year "go for it" window back in 2021...or at least they shouldn't have been. Is it that some people just HAVE to blame someone for everything? Can't just accept that sometimes things don't work out for a variety of reasons? I think that's it. It will be interesting to see if the O's find themselves in a similar situation - wondering if they should have sold the prospects and gone for it in 2023.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Vegas has the Jays Win total pegged at 76.5 right now. Goes to show you what the expectations are this season. They are probably more of a 78 win team but I'm guessing they have the likely chance of the Jays selling at the deadline baked into the total.

Everything went wrong last year and they still won 73. The team already projects for significantly more than 76.5 and Atkins needs to save his job so he'll make more moves. They might not get the home run of an offseason we wanted but they will be getting better as the offseason progresses.

I actually bet on the Jays making the world series and also winning the world series using the same logic before the off-season started. Couple of months later and I regret not using that money on drugs/alcohol lol.

You either don't think things through and change your opinion on a dime or what you truly believe (as evident by where you put your money) is different then what you say on the board. But to each their own!

But to each their own! I actually made that bet on JaysBlue's advice because I agreed with him that the Jays will go big this off-season after being embarrassed in every fashion the last off-season. While I didn't think they'd actually win the world series, I thought the odds were going to shrink greatly. Also, i think you're confusing what I want to happen (Jays being successful) with what is actually happening (Jays being unsuccessful). That is what leads to mine and several other posters "whining" on the board. There is a continent on the board that seems to back up everything this front office has done who have totally flipped. Maybe they should look back at the comments that were being made in real time when they were trying to "bully" people off this board because they didn't agree with theirs and the front offices approach

Okay, sure. Things were going okay until last year so it seems reasonable to have been relatively bullish on the team and then slowly change your mind as the quality of the state of the org begins to downgrade as well. But even so, what should we do about posters who bet real life money on the Jays winning the WS while simultaneously doom-posting on the board for months on end?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I have a couple of ideas
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I don't want to start up another fight. My point is that there are posters here who give Atkins a 5/10 and posters here who give him a 1/10. All want him gone so we really aren't even arguing over anything that distinctive. I think the personalities just clash and that's a stupid reason to have the year long beefs. Brownie19 1

But when those downgrades started to be made, many of those same posters were fighting against those who saw the obvious flaws. It seems like a shock to some of you but many of us saw stupid move after stupid move after 2022 and haven't been shocked with where we ended up based on that. It doesn't make any of us happy to be part of a **** product we all gotta suffer through. Heck, even with all that said, there is still a path for the Jays to be good next year. Tons of impact players who fill our weaknesses are still available. It's just going to come down to whether the original prices will come down and whether we will spend our way out of this mess. It's "doom and gloom" until the results show us otherwise lol.

I think posters like me don't give a crap if he's 1/10 or 4/10... he gets a failing grade of where we are currently regardless. We've all been arguing semantics on this board all off-season simply because this team hasn't given us anything to do otherwise. In a reasonable world, we would all stay quiet until the off-season ends and we all know where we stand heading into next season but we don't live in that world. It's the good/bad of always being connected to information lol.
