I think Vlad might actually be the best choice for leadoff right now as he's producing a decent OBP as he's walking a lot.

IDK, his OBP is good but he's also the stupidest baserunner on the team

All things considered I stick with Springer but I still want this for the top 5:

Springer

Bichette

Turner

Vlad

Varsho

If they want to switch it up they could do something like this:

1. Springer

2. Turner

3. Varsho

4. Vlad

5. Bo

That's pretty close to what the book suggests anyway and in line with projections. Varsho also breaks up the righties.

I also don't care if they just leave it the way it is.

Guerrero also leads all of MLB in GIDP since he became a regular. Batting him leadoff would probably add a half win from baserunning value alone.

Fun fact about Vlad, he actually has reverse splits in his career. 118 wRC+ against LHP, 131 wRC+ against RHP. So I probably wouldn't put Varsho right next to Vlad/behind to avoid them bringing in a lefty for the pair. I'd probably put Bo after Varsho so if they bring in a lefty they have to deal with his superior platoon splits after. Turner has exactly equal splits so he can go anywhere.

Agreed

If Bo and Vladdy don't hit it the offense is going to suck no matter where you put them.

I'm honestly starting to think the team would be better with Vladdy on the bench. His game is in ruin. The shame is that his skill set can be off the charts.

Looks like he's stuck in "trying too hard" mode and it just aint working. Prob needs a chance of scenery to ignite.

Can't believe we're depending on a guy with a career 5.5% walk rate...

Those splits are insane to me because he seemingly gets chewed up by sliders away. I guess lefties also just do it too and he pounds those into the right side of the infield too?

Who is starting in his place though? Vogelbach? Vlad still offers the most offensive upside on the entire squad and he's not going to find his form at the plate if he's parked on the bench.

IMO this just proves that he has a poor mental game

How else to explain those splits other than, the idea that he should be crushing lefties gets in his head and his swing gets messed up?

Dump Vogelbach and bring up Horwitz.

It's OK when he gets 180-190 hits with 35-40 doubles and 20-25 home runs

Not feeling that this season though...

Then do something with Vladdy off-line. Something big is wrong with him. I may be one of the toughest on him, but I still think he can be better than he is. Only question is how to make it happen. I just don't see how running him out everyday is working. The Halladay treatment is called for.

Horwitz is not the answer for me. He’s like Nolan Schanuel of the Angels. First base only guys with no power

Vlad might look like ass cheeks but even at his worst he is probably better than Horwitz

Yeah Horwitz has like... one barrel in AAA. Good expected stats but almost no barrels. He probably hits the ball harder than Schanuel but that's not saying much.

Will Robertson is a far more interesting hitter to me. Him and Orelvis are the real thumpers.

Leo Jimenez actually has the highest xwOBA on the AAA team... interesting?

Where are AAA xwOBA stats available online?

the other possibility is Horwitz shares some time with Turner at 1b and Barger and Schneider pick up more at bats. Vogelbach as cheerleader is a waste of roster space.

the guy needs a LOT of defensive reps at 2b. A season at DH won't help him long term and it sure doesn't seem like we're going for it this year with this offense.

My dream (though Baltimore would say f-no) is Vladdy for Jackson Holliday.

Yeah this is all moot

Vladdy is going to play every day

We used to make fun of Cito and other hitting coaches "Pull dat ball" philosophy. In '24, we salute them as oracles, and beg our players to adopt the doctrine.

Cito was ahead of his time. Pull dat ball + created more opportunities for minorities
