G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 So, is Kirk still perfectly round or did he shed a few? Vladdy shed the most Manoah probably second and Kirk the least
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 Truth is if the Jays had signed Ohtani or traded for Soto this off season, we wouldn't give a flying f*** how much IKF was getting paid

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 Still can't believe Chapman is holding out for a massive payday when he was utterly s*** at the plate for 75% of the season. At least Bellinger put up good numbers lol.

Chapman essentially hit like a superstar middle of the order bat for about half of his season (10 weeks total) and struggled for the other 10 weeks.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 He should test out a cutting 50 pounds.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 He should test out a cutting 50 pounds. He's cut a lot, whether that helps is to be seen.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 There was a promotional video I saw earlier on the Jays twitter and Kirk looks a lot smaller. Still not small but smaller than last year for sure.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 It seemed like the entire 2023 lineup tried to hit singles the other way all season (or at least it felt that way). Hopefully there are more pulled baseballs hit in the air in 2024.

At least Bellinger put up good numbers lol. At this point I don’t even think he’s holding out for a massive deal, I don’t think teams are offering him the length he wants. Nobody really needs a 3B bad enough to give him 5+ years. Most teams are probably like we’ll give you 3 but that’s it

The approach seemed too Cleveland esque to me where the emphasis is on contact. f***in let it rip a little fellas pull that ball in the air and hope for the best Although that seemed like Varsho’s approach so who knows

Boras may have screwed his clients here but let's see.

Boras may have screwed his clients here but let's see. That’s a good point I hadn’t considered. Makes them back to the Jays and Cubs respectively even more likely. I could see Rogers giving them the go ahead even though I took dean’s side earlier in the offseason. The longer it goes the more likely a one year deal at the QO price might get it done.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 Over a comp pick? Who else is really in play for these guys? Cubs, Jays, Giants, maybe the Angels? Unless Colorado comes knocking out of the blue again

mphenhef Verified Member Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 That's top of the range ...Freeman, Goldschmidt, Olson...is Vlad worth that right now? I'd say no. But after 2 more years of the 40+ HR 150 wRC+ Vlad...yeah. Keep in mind Vlad is hitting free agency at a much younger age than those guys, which could impact things if the performance dictates it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 Keep in mind Vlad is hitting free agency at a much younger age than those guys, which could impact things if the performance dictates it. Olson was very young!

I think my overall point is that the AAV of 1b isn't going to be a 30 million+ payday like some may think even if he does have 2 back to back good years. He would have to have back to back MVP caliber years and show drastic improvement in defense to allow that to even enter the conversation

And even then, the last several years of both of those deals were painful as f*** To get the Matt Olson deal, Vladdy *should* need a good 2024 followed up by a 5+ WAR platform campaign in 2025. He should get it or something close to it if he just.... performs "as projected"

BTS Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 Yeah, it's a hamstring not elbow, shoulder or lat or something. No big deal.
