How’s he looking boys

I couldn't care less if he meets the arbitrary criteria of all the professional fitness scouts here, I want to know if his mechanics are back and can control his damn pitches.

Gotta agree with that. In spring, I'd probably rather see if he can keep to the pitch clock and not get messed up.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa is the baseball version of Ice Spice. Way too much conversation about such a minimal impact player when there is far more important things to discuss about this team. Edited by Laika

Like our lack of ISO?

Okay but he does look more normal here. I think this is more what he looked like when he entered the league.

Mechanics and control will go hand in hand with body comp for Alek in the pitch clock era

Monoah trimmed down will almost certainly be a bad thing - you don't gain power by trimming down.

Loving the mod edit on this one lol

I understand your point, people who try to trim too aggressively would lose muscle

But he could probably gain effective power or arm speed, or stamina, by losing some of the mass / body fat. Think relative strength.

You can lose weight and lose absolute strength (you bench less) while gaining relative strength (you can do more pushups)

Or at least return his mechanics to what they used to be when he weighed 40 lbs less

Mitch White could be one of the biggest X Factors of spring training. I'd say there's a decent chance he outperforms Manoah, and being out of options after an impressive spring could mean roster spot for White.

Also I don't remember where I saw this but apparently there's no minor league assignment clause for Yariel. So theoretically he doesn't have a roster spot locked but at 6.4M AAV I would guess they expect him to earn a roster spot out of spring.

Maybe in powerlifting that works but this is baseball which relies on the functional strength necessary to perform baseball moves. This includes a lot of various factors like proper mechanics, flexibility, general athleticism, etc. Gaining 40+ pounds is going to affect all of that stuff negatively.

Also, let's not pretend like Manoah lost so much weight that he's now skinny. The dude is still very chunky. Probably even considered obese on the BMI scale. He's just not shockingly fat anymore.

And finally, we saw what the all-powerful fat f*** version of Manoah could do and it was abysmal. He might as well try a season while having shed significant weight.

Didn't CC Sabathia slim down one offseason and was crap, then went back to being heavy and was good again lol.

Yeah, he stopped drinking for a year, gained it all back and some and won a CY as a drunk. Guy's a stud!

Trying to keep my expectations measured but "hope Springs eternal" for Spring Training and for Alek.

His fitness looks better than some shots I've seen. Good too see. Lets hope he has the V, movement and command most importantly.

Still wish we could have signed Soler over Yariel.

There are also examples in the nba where guys lose weight and actually become worse (Kevin Love). It honestly comes down to the way you lose the weight.

A lot of people just eat less and/or do cardio but totally neglect weight training. Of course you're going to get weaker if weights are not part of your plan.

Yeah one day of Spring Training and I'm already tempted to start chugging the Kool-Aid.

If Manoah can put up a big season, the entire staff falls into place and can handle an injury or two with ease. If he sucks again we have to quickly pivot to Plan B and the depth looks shaky.

Manoah has turned back the clock

Also heard that Mitch White is touching 99 and has been fooling around with Gausman's splitter...
