deanmike Verified Member Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Random tidbit about McCoy to put his defensive ability into context even though it's not what the team needs right now: his pre-season ZiPS projections had him at 1.4 fWAR in 510 PA just off his defense+baserunning alone (projected wRC+ was 74).
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Seems so. That’s ok though we have a handful of other guys we can put our trust in. Jackson is like 7th/8th best right now, and moves down further when Green arrives. He is found money pretty much and was pitching better and in more leverage than anyone expected. I think he continues to be the up/down guy in various roles but less leverage. He throws more sliders than Sergio Romo haha. Bound to miss and get crushed at times. I agree. Maybe Francis stays up instead of Jackson once Green is up and once Swanson returns. Francis would be the extra guy on 9/1. Romano Hicks Green Mayza Richards Swanson Cabrera Garcia Francis

At the moment I might put three or four guys ahead of him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 This is what the Jays should be doing against garbage teams. Absolutely Problem is winning 2/3 against every bad team isn't good enough any more. Not enough margin for error. Have to sweep some of these series.

Ideally Green is the 8th inning guy because he has ice in his veins, just not sure if his stuff is good enough this soon after TJS to be given that role. Next year, for sure, as the velo is usually much better the 2nd year after TSJ. That said, I would still like him there. Richards or Swanson are nice 8th inning guys too. I don't trust Mayza as that guy though, this season is very much positive BABIP fueled. His HR% is far lower this season, while everything else is similar. His xFIP is actually higher than 2022.

Hicks is much better now than Nate, and throws 2 MPH harder avg but ya same kind of vibes on V/stuff with lack of command. You get the feeling on any given outing he could K the side or f*** it all up with a BB, HBP and a double etc. I started looking into comparing their pitch movement stats vs avg but I never finished. Greene a bit like that as a SP for Reds.

Pretty accurate, Richards/Swanson are ok - haven't checked their k's/9 ideally you need it to be at around 9+ Looking forward to seeing what Green has
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 You know the season has been frustrating when you see posters gleefully preparing for the coronation of Schneider, Clement at the major league level after a handful of games. Yeah, Biggio/Espinal aren't great but have some perspective. Temper your expectations fellas before reality bites you in the ass next season.

I will do no such thing when it comes to lowering expectations with Babe Schneider. Not happening.

I hope in a kidding way, clement and mccoy are nothing, Schneider has a chance but could eventually flame out (could be Merrifield light) - the important thing is he's contributing right now

Mets are in last place in the NL East lol.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
