Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 This is caveman-like thinking similar to when Gord Ash kept Joe Carter around 5 years too long because he was getting 100 RBI a season. The analytics have never been more accessible than they are now. You guys seem smart (enough), you both should learn how to read a Statcast page! They even color code it for the double digit IQ fans such as yourselves! I'll go ahead and get you started with a quick lesson. Blue = Bad and Red = Good. So me calling him a rockstar because he’s been awesome for the Cubs means I can’t read a statcast page ok bud lol. God forbid I’m happy for a player for having a career resurgence. Sorry it’s not up to your standards.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 I'll take Vladdy's D at first over Teo's in RF every day of the week and twice on Sundays. It's not particularly close, the metrics are just horrible this season. Go take a gander at the advanced defensive metrics. Vlad has Fangraphs second worse defensive value after adjustment among all MLB defenders, and only finds himself ahead of well known defensive butcher Kyle Schwarber. Despite the occasional blunder in the outfield Teoscar is having a really nice season defensively, ranking 4th in overall Fangraphs defense among qualified right field defenders.

You and the rest of the Bellinger fanboys glancing at his RBI? Dude's offensive statcast numbers are bluer than the state of Massachusetts' congressional map.

I think i'd still bet on Teo not being a good OF going forward rather than looking at this season where he's doing well and thinking he's turned a corner.

Dude's offensive statcast numbers are bluer than the state of Massachusetts' congressional map. 2.8 in WAR in 68 games Good Defense regardless if he plays OF or 1B. Good base runner. .370 On Base. OPS over .900 All for a show me one year contract. Yes please. Would have loved to have that on my team this year. He would be the best hitter on our team.

hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 So you like Pierce Johnson because the Braves picked him up? The Jays literally just picked up the same type of arm from the left hand side, I don't get it. Hmm... he does have good Stuff+ numbers, but the fastball seems to be his issue, players are teeing off of him and he walks far too many, not to mention that ghastly HR/FB rate. <-- Which could certainly have something to do with Coors Field, IDK. I like him as a decent back of the pen arm and he didn't cost that much - it's early in the tdl so I'm bored. Hopefully we get some good news on signings in the coming days
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 No no, the Braves have a clue and that's why they won't be using Johnson as their secondary closer. This looks like a solid depth move - nothing more. and that's valuable

Well there is the mutal option for 2024, which of course will be turned down by Bellinger at this point unless he gets catastophically injured. Comeback player of the year bonus of 1 million too. Belli is taking home 17.5 minimum, could get 18.5 with that bonus. Not bad at all.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Chirinos and Hearn could be solid multiple inning relievers or start when needed. Pierce Johnson is a nice add. Nothing spectacular but solid overall baseball moves nonetheless. AA is wonderful

But my point to Sherman is the one year deal he signed with the Cubs looks like a good bit of business for them. He was calling people idiots in the off-season for suggesting he was signed to a one year deal here. Cubs will flip him for some decent assets.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Author Posted July 24, 2023 If you guys like giving up your Nos. 10 and 26 overall prospects for a 32 year old reliever with a career 4.04 xFIP (who is also making a pro-rated 5 mil ROS) then you must love giving up a nobody prospect for Genesis Cabrera.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Bellinger is closing in on the $/WAR category as well that Terminator was referencing once Bellinger passed KK Have any of the Bellinger haters looked at KK’s numbers since June? Big yikes
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Ah the peaks and valleys of role players. Gotta love Baseball.

The only reason it's a good bit of business is that he's over performing his xFIP by 60 points. He's got a .325 xwOBA with good defense and baserunning. That's not providing a whole lot of surplus value on an 18 million dollar contract. But if you think that's a steal how about a guy who signed for half the amount who has a .321 xOBA with even better defense? You must love that guy right? Want to take a guess on who that might be?

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Author Posted July 24, 2023 Is that the guy with a 60 wRC+ since June? He had a bad June which was mostly fueled by a .216 BABIP? July looks pretty good. And it's KK, he doesn't even need to hit to provide surplus value. He just merely has to stay on the field.

I liked both signings the fact that you fail to understand that astonishes me. This was never a Kiermaier vs Bellinger debate but you decided to make it into one just to argue with people.

This was never a Kiermaier vs Bellinger debate but you decided to make it into one just to argue with people. Oh I like to argue? You know how many Bellinger Fanboys take shots at me daily? It's not even what you see on the board. My PM's are filled with nasty Bellinger Fanboy messages. Some of them even found out where I live and have pulled all sorts of dirty tricks on me, including being swatted not once but twice. There's more too. I can't say too much (I'm getting ready to file multiple lawsuits) but his lawyer has even sent me cease and desist letters because he feels like I'm tanking his client's next contract. But I can't be intimidated and I won't stop so get used to it bud. I won't stop until I expose this waste of talent for what he is.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Will any of the Bellinger haters admit that a 3 WAR outfielder with a 140 wRC+ would have been an asset to the Jays?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 3 WAR through 70 games* He’s on pace for the second best season of his career

I wasn't aware people were in your DM's harassing you about Bellinger. I have taken some shots but all in good fun and public on the board. Bottom line Bellinger was a good signing for the Cubs. Kiermaier was a good signing for us. I never disliked the Kiermaier signing it was more about health and whether or not the Jays were going to add a right-handed bat to compliment both Kiermiaer and Varsho. Ultimately that didn't happen and the Jays are still looking for that guy. I am in the boat that Kiermaier should be playing against lefties over Varsho. I don't understand why Varsho starts in CF vs Lefties. It's confused me the entire season.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Will any of the Bellinger haters admit that a 3 WAR outfielder with a 140 wRC+ would have been an asset to the Jays? Doubt any will...defense and defensive WAR is king. Offense is easy, any can do it they will say

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Author Posted July 24, 2023 Will any of the Bellinger haters admit that a 3 WAR outfielder with a 140 wRC+ would have been an asset to the Jays? No because with our luck he underperforms his xwOBA by 60 points instead of overperforming it by that amount and he produces a WAR near zero. Would have also prevented us from signing KK and the entire thing would have been a tits up disaster. Everyone knows I'm right.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Cody Bellinger is not "back" but he has salvaged his career and was a good signing for the Cubbies
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Author Posted July 24, 2023 Let's see, Why do you think the Braves made this deal? They obviously see something and their FO deserves some benefit of the doubt. But Pierce Johnson does not have a good track record. If we made the same deal the goblins of the board would have crawled out of their holes to talk about how s***** Atkins is.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Let's see, Why do you think the Braves made this deal? You're Dagagad, I remember now. You melted down and are back, I get it, I like your mind, save for representation without fact.
