That’s what I’m saying about humble pie. Needs to understand this isn’t fixing itself with his awesomeness

He needs a tough love type of person IMO. Someone who wont blow smoke up his ass. Sadly I dont think the org employs people like that anymore. All yes men.

Its actually pretty f***ing gross whats hes allowed to happen to his body. Young multi millionaire athlete that lets himself go from slight overweight to probably borderline obese. This team would be well within their right to tell him to stop being a fatty. Or maybe the org leadership is too pussy to say it and hurt his feelings like he had happen earlier this year.

Yeah he’s a pro athlete, priority #1 is to take care of your body and he just hasn’t done that

LMAO Manoah was upset after he got the news according to a tweet by Kaitlyn McGrath. Like f*** off. How delusional can you be? What the f*** did you expect the team to do?

If true this tells me something about him that I really don't like

He should not have expected anything else at this point. It's best for him and the team.

He could be upset at himself and that’s totally valid. Depends what the context is here

He had to have known it was coming.

Its true and it shows where his heads at if he thinks he should stay on the big league team any longer. His teammates have a right to be pissed at him aswell at this point. They are trying to win games and hes out here loosing the game by him self time and time again. At least Berrios had some occasional good games and Kikuchi was by all accounts ready to do anything last year including going to AAA.

This tweet doesn't say Alek thinks he deserves to stay in the big leagues, it says he's upset about being demoted to the minors because he wants to help his team.

Right

Upset with himself and upset that this happened = understandable

Upset with the team = no

That's more understandable

But he's not helping the team when he pitches like this so hopefully he accepts that and works his ass off to get better

He got upset after he got the news. Means he disagrees with the decision no? Means he thinks he should stay on the team and continue to pitch no?

There's a big difference between thinking a guy that is acting entitled vs a guy who is disappointed he won't be able to help his team out. I lean towards the second option personally but I guess we differ there.

Manoah in college

stuff is identical

he is like, 40+ lbs thinner though

look at his f***ing waist. i bet there is an extra 6 inches on it now. maybe more.

And this is what makes Manoah a less than sympathetic character. Guys like him are literally sitting on winning lottery tickets and yet come to training camp in slightly better shape than your fathers softball league outfielder. As a professional athlete, if I can’t see your belt buckle because of the fat hanging over your torso, there is definitely a problem. The same thing can be said of Kirk. So while I sympathize with his predicament about being demoted, he in no way should garner any sympathy from Bluejay fans. He acted like he was Justin Verlander on the mound, but without all the achievements to go with it. Let’s hope he gets his body and his mind in shape.

Man, every AL East team is laughing at him (by extension, us). Dude talked way too much and got his ego handed to him. Unbelievable fall from grace (though, he never was graceful). Hopefully Barriera comes up with a little more poise and tact.

In this thread i learned so much about how Manoah should act and behave 100% of the time, from the perspective of people who have 0 insight into anything related to what life is like as a professional athlete.

how some of you aren't employed by organizations looking for specialists in player mindsets and psychology I'll never know.

Even worse than armchair managers, now we have armchair sports psychologists. My mind is blown every day at the genius level insights here.

I agree John. These f***ing organizations are missing a gold opportunity; they definitely should hire me as a specialist in player mindsets and psychology.

I would love, and not even joking, LOVE to see the name of "Captain Obvious" on the nameplate when you walk into a sports psychologists office.

Or any psychologists office for that matter.

i think that by his response about throwing balls and strikes, that there's definitely a large mental aspect to it. I think he needs to regain his confidence amongst other things that many others have mentioned here.

When that doubt creeps in and you start telling yourself you "can't throw a ball here?" That leads to a lot of meatballs being served up to hungry, experienced hitters who know exactly what he is thinking.

I think it has affected his velocity, his delivery, command and every thing else that goes with it.

I like the decision to send him to Florida where there's support and expertise and time.

Triple A or wherever wasn't going to do it.

I'd like to know his current weight; the idea that he needs more time is believable.

CC Sabathia, same height as Manoah, was listed at 300 lb and I doubt Manoah's that big yet.

He's listed - probably from the past - as 6'6" 285 lb.

Aaron Judge is 6'7" 282 lb and no one calls him fat.

But David Wells is listed in the same place (baseball-reference.com) as having been 6'3" 187 lb and that has GOT to be way low.

Maybe it's the weight they entered MLB at?

It is their signing day weight.

This pretty much sums it up for me. People keep bringing up like the only 3 players ever to be overweight and successful pitchers in the MLB as if its something common. It is so rare for it to actually work. out.
