Bro, he wasn’t going to break down things on his own. Someone needed to tell him he wasn’t ok and he wasn’t going to just keep going out there and battling. Something needed to change.

I like Manoah but he’s just not the same pitcher without that slider. He needed an ego check. I’m confident he’ll come back better

When he’s good again, I have no problem with him being an alpha.

I don't think Manoah didn't necessarily needed an ego check, he just needed to take down the overly aggressive overtures towards the opposition on the field of play. He was a massive young confident pitcher at the top of his game with the world at his fingertips. If ever there is a time to be a bit brash/cocky that's exactly it. I really haven't seen the same brash guy much at all this season unless you think a guy breaking down in the dugout after his start is indicative of somebody who needs an attitude adjustment.

One thing people haven’t pointed out is that he will likely be hanging around Ryu and Chad Green rehabbing at the Florida complex, that could be helpful for him to be around some big league guys. He and Ryu were good buds in his rookie year IIRC.

Maybe he can take some conditioning tips from Ryu as well while he's down there as well.

I was thinking more about the off season preparation. I understand it’s all speculation but that’s what happens when you suck

It's entirely possible his offseason training routine needs work. I just hate it when people definitively blame his "obvious" offseason weight gain for mechanics that are completely out of whack. I don't think that an extra 10 or 20 pounds or whatever is going to be that obvious on a guy that is already this massive to start with.

I recall years ago when Brandon League started weight training in the offseason, and his lats were built up to the point where it was negatively affecting his stuff. I wonder if Alek is training in more of a strongman type of routine or something and could use more guidance from the training staff about how to navigate his offseason.

We’re all just talking heads here. To me, and a casual, when you’re cocky like that and come out this season like he has, it gives the impression he didn’t work hard in the off season. Maybe that’s true, maybe it isn’t. Now he’s going to be forced to work at it. As I said, I’ll bet on him coming back strong. Even if it’s next year, idk

I don't think Alek would have been nearly as indignant as he was when he was called out by that MLB network dude if he wasn't working hard in the gym. I do hope this ends up being a blessing in disguise long term though, I think there should be extra velocity in that frame that can be coaxed out with the right type of training. With the low 90's heater he just can't have the same type of success in the zone as he did previously. Even when he makes a good pitch it's much easier for the opposition to simply foul it off and wait for a mistake, whereas he used to be able to get away with quite a few mistakes previously.

Manoah hasn't developed at all since being drafted. Just fastball slider, same as day 1.

No 3rd pitch, no added velo, not in any better shape. Nothing.

Because he never needed it lol. He was a 4 WAR pitcher whose biggest flaw is he hit a few too many hitters. His stuff or mechanics got worse, it's not like the league caught up with his stuff. He just simply got worse, Manoah straight out of college was a significantly better pitcher than the one we've seen this year.

He has 2 fastballs, sinker and 4 seam, the slider and a changeup that it definitely below average. He's not a 2 pitch pitcher, but if you want to split hairs about which ones were plus vs the current plus... then hes probably not even a 2 pitch pitcher.

Who f***ing cares if he has two pitches. So does Gausman and he's unhittable. Manoah was fine when he was averaging 94 with a good sinker and a filthy slider. It's not a lack of development from what was already working, it's a regression of all of his stuff.

Just looking at video of this year vs 2021 and 2022

Is he collapsing on his back leg this season?

Posted
Manoah also expecting a baby. I’ve seen a pic of his fiancé and she is quite pregnant.

are you sure? Always be sure before assuming lol

Why Bowden Francis now, isn’t he going to take over Manoah spot in the rotation? Could of brought some other shitballer up to cover innings rest of the series

Wtf he gained like 80 lbs. The blue jays are the most body positive team in the league and I kind of hate it. Manoah Vlad and Kirk should all go to fat camp this winter.

Its actually pretty f***ing gross whats hes allowed to happen to his body. Young multi millionaire athlete that lets himself go from slight overweight to probably borderline obese. This team would be well within their right to tell him to stop being a fatty. Or maybe the org leadership is too pussy to say it and hurt his feelings like he had happen earlier this year.

100% percent. Way to many fatties parading around. Bad look for a team made of "high level athletes".

Imagine having access to some of the most advanced facilities on the planet surrounded by people who are literally employed to keep you in shape and this happens. It’s a shame.

If Alex Manoah was pitching like David Wells, nobody would be complaining about his weight.

That’s true. So if you want to be fat, you better still be good. Then be fat all you want. You’ll still get some people saying “he could be even better”, but generally speaking it’s ok

Pitching lab isn't working!

LMAO Manoah was upset after he got the news according to a tweet by Kaitlyn McGrath. Like f*** off. How delusional can you be? What the f*** did you expect the team to do?

That’s what I’m saying about humble pie. Needs to understand this isn’t fixing itself with his awesomeness
