Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Looks at schedule : 4 straight games in Tampa 8 more straight series vs teams above .500
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 What a f***ing mess of a team right now. Shameful. Time for a closed door meeting??? Wouldn’t do much anyways.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 21, 2023 Author Posted May 21, 2023 Feels like they need a good team psychiatrist. 6-63 with RISP the past 6 games seems like a mental thing. Vlady also putting too much pressure on himself in front of the home crowd. I'll take "road Vladdy" in Tampa please

They love to make fun of takes like yours but then it's crickets when they are proven wrong and you're proven right.

polar bear Verified Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 We are going on a huge winning streak starting tomorrow With zero clutch hitting,I very much doubt it.

Vlady also putting too much pressure on himself in front of the home crowd. Or maybe the coach isnÂ’t doing a good job helping them play loose? Or itÂ’s just a streak of bad luck. Vladdy's has hit like a legend in Sahlen (Buffalo), Tor TD (Dunnedin), Fenway, Yankee Stadium Camden, like Darlton Varsho in Tropicana and very mediocre at Rogers Center. It might be nothing, his great season just happened to be that year for other reasons. Checked and he hit about the same home/away last year, his only full year at Rogers Center. Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 We got boat raced by Kyle Gibson, a struggling rookie and Dean Kremer. Are you guys tipping your caps to Baltimore and admitting they have the better team or is it more of a situation where the Jays sucked ass?

Even great teams have periods where they sick. But really good teams don't usually suck for stretches this long

I'm a die hard Jays fan but our team building is AA level unsustainable or even moreso because nowadays AA pulls prospects out of his ass. We were supposed to be getting the guy that built like the Os are building now and all we got was discount double check AA. Makes good major league transactions to band aid and band aid and band aid.

Everyone wants to crown the Orioles as the new titans of the division but they swept us while throwing a struggling rookie and two garbage pitchers at us while batting Adam Frazier 5th. Are they really that good or did we just suck?

Key22 Verified Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Swept by Boston and Baltimore and lost 3/4 to the Yankees - the game we won we we were shut out through 9. Bassitt stole us a game. We beat Atlanta but their defence lost them their games rather than us actually beating them. Garcia is a $5m dollar reliever that Houston let walk away because they didn't feel he was worth that - in other words, he wasn't good enough to make their pen. He's our number 2/3 arm. I know some are slaves to WAR but BP arms matter. But big arms in the pen are tough to get and our farm isn't brimming with talent to trade.

I still think the Jays finish ahead of the Orioles this season, 1 series doesn’t change my mind However next year and beyond I think it will be a coin toss on who is better

Are they really that good or did we just suck? Adam Frazier could be replaced by Jackson Holliday in a few weeks. People (myself included) that think the Orioles could be a powerhouse as of now, think that Rodriquez will be good soon, that Tyler Bradish and Wells are decent, that one way or another Adam Frazier won't be hitting 5th regularly, and that they have the prospects and payroll space for additions as soon as this trade deadline. Edit: The thought is they are also a Tampa Bay Rays level organization who can make the most out of s***ing 5 inning pitchers by using their bullpen well.

But it's not a foregone conclusion that every prospect pans out or that they effectively build a rotation. They basically have a couple of depth arms and a good prospect who is no guarantee to pan out (Rodriguez). If Rodriguez pans out they still need 3 to 4 more starters. If he doesn't pan out they basically need 5.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 on a positive note, Pearson has looked effective and Springer is coming out of his slump it seems. The team is just in a skid, they're not this bad.
TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Hopefully Chapman gets hot again so he has some trade value at the deadline The Jays brass can only hope.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 No way. Agree with the rest, though. The only thing I remember that was comparable was Juan Soto and he was called up after about 40 games of this. Like 15 at low, 15 at a, and only 8 and aa.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Man this team looks incompetent right now. Schneider's chair has to be getting warm and Atkins' might start as well.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 We were awful at the beginning of May last year as well. We're getting good starting pitching but all of our bats cooled at the same time and there is a vacuum with risp. It's a slump. We will pull out of it. Are we going to win the east? Doesn't look like it, we didn't make hay while the sun was shining. This is still a playoff capable team. Once in, we can beat anybody in a short series; anybody.

The difference this year is the entire division has taken a step forward. I don't expect the Red Sox to ultimately be that good but they can definitely float a few games over .500 the whole season. The Orioles look pretty legit and are primed to add Starting Pitching whenever it becomes available.
TimInBC Verified Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 For me it isn't that the whole team sucks. It's almost as if they suck only enough to lose the game, but no more. Most of the guys who weren't hitting are coming around; the starting pitching has been mostly OK after a bumpy start. But now Romano's slipping, Vladdy's forgotten how to hit again, Varsho was never much of a hitter, and we just can't get people across the plate. I can't see management being patient with Schneider (although Mattingly has a .483 record as a manager and isn't an automatic replacement).

I like our chances with Gausman and Bassitt as 1 and 2 to start a series. This boards "I told you this team sucked" crowd thumping their chests after some s***** games is f***ing hilarious.
