Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Wait, Hunter Dozier is still rostered, let alone starting, for the Royals? He’s been a -1 WAR player the last two seasons, is 31 and is below average for a bat-only player without the ability to even crush lefties in a platoon. The Royals are an awful org. Luckily they also gave him a 4/25M contract back at the beginning of 2021 because Hunter Dozier is just one of those guys that you extend first and ask questions later.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Why the f*** is Brady Singer starting the 4th game of the year for the Royals? Hes far and away the best Starter on that team. Hell he’s one of the best pitchers in the entire division.

Now he’s going to have a monster series.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Apparently out of all our starters, only Varsho has hit a HR against Singer.

Thought it would be battle of the s***-ballers and the very weak, powerless Jays might get their first homerun. The homer ratio might be 9-0 though by the end of the night, facing what is essentially a very good opening day starter, vs. the Jays shitballer.

But yea certainly a favourable pitching matchup for the Royals. I have absolutely no idea what we’re going to get from Berrios tonight or this season for that matter. It’s kinda terrifying considering how much money he makes.

Jays have a lot of $$$ tied up in Ryu, Berrios, Bassit and Kikuchi
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Serious question.. If we don't make the playoffs or get knocked out first round, does Ross keep his job?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Apparently out of all our starters, only Varsho has hit a HR against Singer. I’m pretty sure the Blue Jays have only faced Singer like two times. Varsho apparently got the best of him in the one game he’s seen him. On the other hand, the Royals have seen Berrios a million times.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Serious question.. If we don't make the playoffs or get knocked out first round, does Ross keep his job? If they don’t make the playoffs hes 100 percent gone. If they don’t advance in the playoffs he’s likely gone. A lot of money invested in this team for no progress. A lot of money invested in Starting Pitching and outside of Gausman it has not been very successful.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Serious question.. If we don't make the playoffs or get knocked out first round, does Ross keep his job? I bet you’d love it if they missed the playoffs just so you could say you were right about beta Ross eh? Literally the Dodgers with 111 wins got knocked out in the NLDS last season, losing 3-1. So no, simply getting knocked out of the playoffs won’t put his job at jeopardy unless serious holes in the roster remain exposed and unaddressed throughout the entirety of the season. A lot of stuff would have to go wrong to outright miss it, but yes it’s very possible in that scenario that he could be used as a scapegoat and get shown the door.

Especially if Berrios doesn't bounce back and Bassit doesn't figure it out. Those contracts could handcuff the franchise for a few years and should cost someone their job.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Serious question.. If we don't make the playoffs or get knocked out first round, does Ross keep his job? With this payroll, maybe not.

All ******** aside, Ross has had 8 years to build a pitching staff. Having said that, I also applaud whoever was mainly responsible for getting Mattingly here.
Henderson33 Verified Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 A Berrios bounce back season is needed if we want to go anywhere. One game in or not, we need his confidence to start off high.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I know know know its early and *shits pants* and all that but wtf do they do if Berrios, Bassitt and Kikuchi keep sucking? With this lineup they really just need mid SP after Manoah and Gausman, but these guys are looking like they might take us out of games early. Would they move 2 20M+ guys to the bullpen? I can't see them eating any of this money so releases don't seem possible.

If only one of them sucked you could plug someone in at the deadline and play the IL game with the under performer but that's pretty hard if all 3 of them are bad.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 If Berrios shits the bed tonight, Google maps conveniently lists all nearby bridges to your location. Word of warning though, the water is still very cold this time of year.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 These are horrible plate appearances Not ready to hit. Swings not locked in. Poor plan at the plate / no plan.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Nice grab by Lopez, call the cops Vladdy.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 How many home runs will Berrios give up on the first inning?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 These are horrible plate appearances Not ready to hit. Swings not locked in. Poor plan at the plate / no plan. Yeah, all three of them looked like they had no clue on timing at all. Singer is one of those really good extension pitchers, and his delivery is pretty definitely deceptive.
