Agreed... I'm thinking we finish the offseason with Teo to split OF/DH duties and Chapman. Not sure if the overall fanbase will be happy with the same team as last year but switching Belt for a Teo like player.

 

 

I've been pulling for a Teo return from the beginning of the off-season. Hopefully this takes us out of the running for Bellinger.

The fact Teo wasn't qualified and could probably be had on a decent contract makes him the better play. Just wish we could have gotten a big left handed bat to bat 3rd in between Bo/Vlad.

That could work, especially if he plays mostly 3B which he would be projected to do.

 

He's got about 1200 innings at 3B in his career. That's about 130 games worth, so basically what he would get if he were the mostly full time starter there.

 

In that span, here are his defensive numbers:

 

DRS-19

UZR-6.7

OAA- 22

RAA- 16

 

Those are prime Matt Chapman numbers

The only real 30 HR threat on the Jays right now would be a Vlad.

Yeah it's not ideal but maybe get a bopper at DH, a 4th OF with some pop (Duvall? Grichuk?) and then look at the trade deadline to add a star player.

 

Also gives Barger, Orelvis and Palmegiani, all of whom are in AAA and on the cusp of the bigs, a shot to see if they can play 3B after a half season more of development.

I know I've posted about this multiple times already, but out of all the 1B/DH power bat options on the FA market, IMO Rhys Hoskins easily has to be at the top of the list in terms of best fit for the Jays.

 

The 4th OF options that stand out to me the most in terms of good fit with the team (assuming they're looking for a LF righty bat who hits well vs LHP) are Grichuk, Duvall and Hicks.

 

C Jansen+Kirk

1B Hoskins

2B Biggio+Babe

3B IKF+Espinal

SS Bo

LF Varsho+Grichuk/Duvall/Hicks

CF Kiermaier

RF Springer

DH Vlad

 

Jays could probably sign all 3 of Hoskins+IKF+Grichuk/Duvall/Hicks for around 30M combined, which would be roughly almost all of their remaining budget post KK signing.

Atkins M.O. would be floor over ceiling. Belli's floor is among the worst of the multi year contract guys, as he has already shown he can be well below replacement. He was a "blue jays target" because he was a free agent OF, we had a spot, and we had supposed previous interest. That interest was in a short term prove your worth deal. I would be absolutely shocked if there were legitimate talks.

Chatted with my friend this morning. Apparently we do have another signing done at 2/15 with an opt out after year one. He thinks it’s Amed Rosario. Doesn’t know when it’s supposed to be announced but the physical is done. I think it’s IKF.

 

He says he has not heard about a formal offer to Bellinger but we have put one across to Chapman.

 

Team is working on a big trade but not for the usual suspect.

My sources are telling me it's Ohtani. He requested a trade because he felt so bad about the whole plane thing and wanted to make it up to Canada. I could stomach Rosario at 2/15 since he has a 2+ WAR projection for 2024 and was slightly above league average offensively in 2021-22, so maybe there's some upside there, but IKF would be awful. Even if he's just an Espinal replacement, I'd probably just keep Espinal who would be cheaper.
