Kim? Only 1 year remaining so not really a longterm piece for the Padres. Could be our 3B next year. Would allow us to ease in Orelvis. If Orelvis takes off Kim can slide over to 2B.

Kim would definitely be desireable. But the cost for him and Soto would be enormous.

Kim makes sense for both sides. He's good but he's only got 1 year left so I doubt he's untouchable for the Padres.

 

On top of it they could slide Cronenworth over to 2B and then sign a cheap 1B with some pop like Votto, Justin Turner, etc. Or maybe take Horowitz back in a deal.

Either him or Soto would have to come with an extension. No way the team dumps the prospect capital it would take for both only have both leave in the offseason.

I don't know how much prospect capital it would actually take. Soto is damn good but he's projected to get 30 million in arbitration. Kim is also good but a lot of his value is tied up in defense and that tends to hold less weight in the market.

 

I know this site isn't the end all be all but...

Lol nice. And no, getting Ohtani doesnt make or break them. What breaks them is we've yet to win a damn playoff game in their era so if we fail to win a playoff series this year, they should be out the door.

 

They've had enough time/resources to get s*** done and so far they've been a big let down. The product on the field hasn't gotten it done while our "waves of talent" is severely lacking in the farm system.

As long as Joe Musgrove doesn't turn into Josh Johnson and Cronenworth bounces back to be a 2-3 WAR player. Also, have to hope Soto has a 5-6 WAR season again in his one season here. Otherwise it's no different than the 2013 Marlins trade.
