What's a Vlad trade you would make then? I was just posting a hypothetical, nothing too outlandish like BNS ******** Dylan Carlson for Alek Manoah hypothetical which would cost the Jays 11 median value on BTV. Atkins gains BTV median value in trades, he rarely loses it.

I don't know that a vlad trade exists that would make sense for both sides. I just don't think he has the value at the moment to command what it would take.

Yeah that's the issue with trading Vlad. He's going to be a $20m/AAV 1B who has been a 0.0-2.8 WAR player in the four non-2021 seasons he's played in the bigs. A team can sign Rhys Hoskins for nothing and probably get 25-30 HR and a 1-2 WAR. The team acquiring Vlad would have to view him as a superstar rather than what he's been for most of his career, and there are too many nerds in front offices for that to happen at this point.

The best chance to trade him for good value is probably AJ Preller, but it's hard to see what a deal would look like that makes sense for both sides. Definitely won't be Tatis.

Vlad has value still, because teams view players in a probabilistic way

Vlad may be coming off a 1 WAR season and his mean projection may be down to 2-3 WAR or so, but teams are still going to bake in the possibility that he can find his demonstrated ceiling again. His age also makes it more probable that he could do that than a player approaching or over 30.

Dude, Espinal has no value, he can't even hold the used jock strap of Machado or Tatis... That is my number one issue I see with your trade proposal... Why in God's green earth would the Padres do that?

Now my Vlad for Soto trade makes sense because the Padres are getting additional control, salary relief (luxury tax) and upside plus a solid base.

yikes

Watched Mattingly play and loved everything about him but he needs to get with the times, things have changed.

What are the Jays adding? Because Soto clears Vlad Jr by over 20 median value on BTV. If Vlad Jr was moved straight up for Soto it would be a massive fleece for Atkins.

There's probably like 10 players who actually have a launch angle swing or whatever that means. I think the game has already moved on from dudes upper cutting mindlessly.

launch angle is just the result not the swing, it's a thing and has little to do with what you call "upper cut". Watch Walker and Moreno swing or next season tune in to Dodger games - they lead the league (or near the top) in launch angle - it's no accident.

and Corey Seager is a product of the Dodger development system so he's another one to watch when it comes to launch angle

There it is folks. The issue all along has been the silent assassin, Don Mattingly.

Funny enough, I was watching some replays of Varsho from last season and his batting stance is entirely different. Almost looked like a different player. His stance 2022 looked more like Matt Olson, more upright with the hands held out over the plate.

Seager has like 5 swings. The Rangers as a whole were swinging straight down on all the Astros rising fastballs. The best hitters nowadays can all adapt

More than likely we struggled because our gameplan and preparation were not advanced enough.

Sean Roberts hasn't been paying attention, hah! Varsho is our CF'er dude.

Hoskins makes sense.

We have Rhys Hoskins already and he can play 2B. His name is Davis Schneider.

I have heard a couple of people say that the Jays were confused because they had too many messages and information and you should just let them swing... maybe that was from Buck or an another old schooler though. I think there are 4 scenarios

1. Not enough information

2. Information wrong

3. Information right but not presented in digestible and actionable way.

4. Information right and presented right and acted upon right.

Probably Jays were at some combo of 2 and 3, Need to get to 4, and avoid mistakenly going back to 1 like the old-schoolers want.

You think the 6 time All-Star, MVP, 3 time Silver Slugger, 9 time Gold Glove winner doesn't know what he's talking about?

super stars cannot teach others because if they could they would all be coaching. Check his record first with the Dodgers and then the Marlins and especially the Marlins - they were brutal. It's also a different game vs when he played; with pitchers routinely hitting triple digits

Supper Stars sounds like the name of a Food Network reality show.

Interview was also in 2018, its not like he couldnt have changed his stance or at least fine tuned it from then to now.

One of my favourite parts of your time as manager was your ejections. Do you have a specific ejection that was the most memorable for you?

One time Joe West told me our team stinks so if he has to stay out there and watch it, I do too, so he wouldnt throw me out

wow. Joe West with the dunk.

Favourite player to coach? And if you are down to say it, least favourite player to coach?

[–]johngibbons05 27 points 2 hours ago

Devon Travis was my favorite, Brett Lawrie was a handful, but I still loved him

LOL he slams Brett Lawrie

Do you think we should sign Shohei Ohtani? Also who was your favourite player you coached.

I think everybody should sign Ohtani, but only a couple teams can afford him

Not sure if this was just released today, but next season's schedule is out.

Jays start with 4 at the Trop, 3 @ Houston, then 3 @ Yankee Stadium before getting their home opener against Seattle, then host Colorado and the Yankees again before going back on the road. Also have 4 off days in the first 3 weeks.

Don't see Batlimore until mid may and dont play Boston until mid june.

Another late home opener, presumably because of the renovations.

Season starting a couple days earlier though, so that's nice.

I instantly have more respect for Joe West. That was gold. Dude might have been a s***** umpire who should have retired long ago but maybe not such a bad person to interact with.
