Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 People are making similar accusations about Spanky almost weekly. Eventually you have to wonder how much truth there is to it. Why would someone lie on the internet, especially with how long it takes to make an account here and verify it etc. If he is lying, Daultonbarhsho loses all credibility. Mods not to be harsh but why do we let these low foreheads continually post on the board under multiple user names?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 What’s a low forehead anyway? Trying to figure it out before I Google
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 some sort of cave man looking thing. Ah I see

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Vlad is performing at his 1st percentile possibilities in basically every way Mans could have been an 8 win 3B who slowly became a 1B then DH over an 18 year career Instead he's a 1 WAR DH already Generational talent
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Generational talent His defense wasn't even that bad the 2 seasons prior, then he fell off a cliff, I wonder what happened there?

Vlads value on plays where he had to come on, go to his right, go to his left, and go back. 2021- 0,0,-1,-2 2022- -1,-3,+1,0 2023- -2,-9,-2,0 He s*** the bed on balls hit to his non-glove side. Everything else was right around his norm of previous seasons.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Yeah He probably thought his size was an asset before 2023. Like the traditional fat pitcher. Of course we've also seen players work hard and get in shape then lose it over future seasons. Like Vlad! Tabby would have been totally perplexed in his analysis this year if he was in our booth. How could a “big strong man” fall off a cliff like this?

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Was looking at some fangraphs stuff and noticed how much worse Kirk is when he DHs and isn't catching. His stats as a DH are truly awful. It's a SSS but the team might want to stop DHing him. I know a lot of players' numbers dip when DHing but I wonder if it's especially true for Catchers who get the benefit of being right there in the action.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 In fact, I wonder if DHing is an underrated skill. Teams these days almost use it as a throwaway position where they cycle guys through to rest them. But that could just be taking whatever your regulars are and applying a 15% production dip to them. So maybe having a guy who thrives as a DH is actually a market deficiency we could exploit?

Haven't seen much about it recently, now that teams just cycle guys through the spot for rest.

Maybe that was the thinking with Belt?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 I haven't seen this talked about but this is from Davidi's latest article on the playoff exit: The biggest prize, of course, is Shohei Ohtani and some industry chatter in recent weeks suggested he’d be more open to an East Coast club this time around, had taken notice of the Blue Jays’ player-development resources and that the idea of adding a third country, Canada, to his prime fanbase carried some appeal for him. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-descend-into-blame-game-as-atkins-misses-chance-to-protect-schneider/

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Imagine if Chadkins somehow manages to land Ohtani Realistically the only way to get the heat off himself is to make a big move. If Atkins isn’t fired in the next few weeks im expecting a huge move coming, whether its Soto/Robert or Ohtani.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Imagine if Chadkins somehow manages to land Ohtani I've said all along that they should at least be thinking about it. I assume that Rogers having their own sports channel to broadcast the games would give them some extra benefits to Ohtani signing here than it would other teams. Also, I wonder how the team benefits if they are picking up extra US broadcasts of his games because you know ESPN and Fox would choose to show Jays games much more often with Ohtani on the team than they do now. So I guarantee you the Jays are doing the due diligence on him and are crunching numbers regarding TV ratings and things of that nature. Hopefully the math adds up and we become serious suitors for him this offseason.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Jays would actually be a good fit for Ohtani if Rogers decided to open up their wallets. Jays wouldn't need Ohtani to pitch until 2025 at least, since the rotation is already strong with Gausman, Berrios, Bassitt and Kikuchi. He can strictly DH in 2024 and then can be eased back into a SP for the 2025 season. Gausman, Bassitt and Berrios will be a year older and Kikuchi is gone as a FA so having an elite ace in the wings would be sweet. Jays add a top power bat to their lineup who is a lefty! From Ohtani's standpoint, he might want to expand his base in Canada and there are a lot of Japanese Canadians who live in Toronto and Vancouver. He's close to other big markets on the east coast like New York and Boston as well. The Jays likely would be shown more down in the US on ESPN and FOX, so he'll still get coverage south of the border when the Jays visit the Yankees, Red Sox or any other team.

He can't just expect to have another 85-90 win team that is a borderline WC team. He needs to make a big splash and move. An Ohtani signing or a big trade for Soto or Roberts definitely takes some heat off of him and gives the Jays a better chance to succeed in 2024.
Marew Verified Member Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 6 years 300m seems ok. 500m seems like it will end up being a bad contract especially if we don’t take payroll to 275m range. He won’t be pitching and hitting in 5-6 years.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 LOL but when I suggest the Jays target an elite superstar... Wow all I do is suggest that the Jays should kick the tires on a FA and now I'm getting attacked. I think the difference is that Ohtani is a FA so it's only money. It's admittedly a long shot but the Jays have been pretty big players in FA lately and I'm curious as to how the TV situation could help us. Rogers probably has as much money as any other owner, after all. Whereas trading for one year of Juan Soto would require us giving up Tiedeman or something like that which makes less sense to me. In addition, I'm also not declaring that the Jays must add a 4 WAR player to advance in the playoffs. I think they should definitely look to improve but there are different ways of doing it. So I'd like to officially note that with this post I have successfully blocked your attack and have landed several counterattacks. Take that pal.
